Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Briand.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lucy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for photography started at a young age. Growing up with three older sisters and a younger brother, our family was not considered “well off” but we always had what we needed. Our parents taught us if we wanted something, we would have to work for it and that anything is possible if you work hard. I remember saving my lunch money a little at a time until I had enough saved up, and I asked my dad to drive me to a Pawn Shop and we purchased my first film camera. My passion grew once I got into high school and took photojournalism. I had the most amazing teacher and she saw my potential. I became a mother at the young age of 18 and put my passion aside.
In 2014, my husband surprised me with my first digital camera and once again it sparked my interest for learning and growing. With the encouragement and support from my husband and family, I was able to start up my business. Not everyone gets to follow their passion in life and I am grateful that I get to do what I love and still be able to raise my family. I keep my sessions reasonably priced because after losing my father and sister in ‘2017, I truly know what it’s like to only have those cherished memories. I want to be able to provide my clients with beautiful memories that will last a lifetime not just digital photos that may or may not be forgotten about over time, therefore my clients also have the option to purchase prints through me which I highly encourage. I truly see beauty in everyone and everything and I hope that my clients are able to see themselves through my eyes when they are photographed by me.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road trying to create and build my own business from scratch. Finding a balance between raising a family, keeping house and ensuring I am dedicating enough time to my business, which includes furthering my education and experiences by taking courses, and workshops, has probably been one of my hardest challenges so far. I like to give 110% in everything that I do and sometimes I find myself overworked and sleep deprived but, seeing my client’s reactions and making sure my family is happy is also the most rewarding feeling that can not be put into words. I love the challenges that come with life and just take everything as a learning experience. Not everyone gets to live their life and do what they love for a living.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the photographer for Briand Photography located in League City, Texas. I don’t know that I can say I “specialize” in any specific area, because I really enjoy everything about what I do. I work with families with and without children, but I also love getting out on my own and just taking scenic photos of all the beauty there is around us. I see a lot of Seniors that are graduating High School or college, and LOVE working with them. Getting to know who they are and what their plans are for the future really allows me to see their personalities and I try to capture that with each individual.
I set extra time aside when working with kids and or toddlers because you just never know what kind of mood they will be in, even the older kids sometimes are not wanting to be there, and I try to connect with everyone to ensure they are comfortable. I have three boys of my own and come from a large family, so that has helped me when connecting and relating to the children allowing them to relax and have fun during our photo sessions. What I am the most proud of as a company is that I try to stay in touch with my clients and I see them as part of my family. I love getting updates and connecting with my clients outside of them coming to see me for their photo sessions. I think that sets me apart from a lot of businesses out there!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! We have a great community and I have met soo many amazing artists that share the same passion as myself for what we do!
