Meet Tiffany Scales of Mærry Us Tiffany in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Scales.

Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A few years before Marriage Equality was reached, I was invited by my friend and mentor, Augie Augustine, to a march. Unbeknownst to me-yet again-I was accepting a position I never imagined. I met these leaders and members of clergy downtown at City Hall and we respectfully marched for miles praying and requesting equality for all. February 2014, I was privileged to speak on the megaphone as well as the mic before hundreds gathered in hope. We expressed our desires to love and be loved as well as our right to marry without opposition. In March 2014, I became an ordained minister- I wasn’t even sure why at the time. The following summer, we received word that Marriage for all was passed and members of the LGBTQIA+ community had been granted the lawful right to marry. I was immediately commissioned by my friends Kim and recording artist Tonya Nolan to wed them in their home.

Honored to be part of something so major-I prayed for guidance and was led to create a premarital questionnaire that they transparently answered. I was able to learn more about their relationship and them as individuals and felt confident to present them and their family and friends with a beautiful ceremony. Months after, more friends began to ask me to wed them and their partners.

I started Marry Us Tiffany and while I was able to keep it up, I had a website. In 2018 I started Merry Us Tiffany, as I had gained so much experience with coaching couples through communication, emotions, and intimacy.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have found this journey to be quite smooth. I remember a few couples over the years who were referred to me by Kay Walker of LOC Nation, who were afraid I would refuse their union as they’d been denied by others. This was heartbreaking-but my immediate response to them was love and they were quickly comforted. I am so grateful couples are becoming aware that they do not have to settle for marrying in a courtroom or space with someone who not only disagrees with them but does not equip them with tools and resources to sustain their marriage.

I am honored to be in the position to love on people and help them within my capacity. I have an army of resources for couples who may need additional guidance/care in areas of mental health, finances, and health.

The only struggle I am finding is better marketing of my services to those who are in need.

Please tell us about Mærry Us Tiffany.
My ceremonies are unscripted. Being an extemporaneous poet, when commissioned, I am able to deliver an original piece for my couples. The overall process is pretty smooth as my questionnaire is thorough and encourages transparency. I am able to assist with vows as well as offer coaching before and after the wedding at an affordable rate which is most effective in the carrying out of those vows and my commitment to doing what I can to assist.

I am most proud of how easy this is for me. I am so passionate about love and supportive of my community-and I truly feel what sets me apart is that I feel more like family through the process than an officiant/coach.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Wow, what a funny question-ironically I remembered playing wedding day as a child. I was the person asking if so in so would take such in such to be their lawfully wedded love.
