Today we’d like to introduce you to Huey.
Huey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out teaching my self how to sew off YouTube videos. I bought some fabric and a sewing machine set in front of my computer that’s how it all got started. At first, I just wanted to see if I could do it. I ended up making a few and rocking them out. People started asking me for them and I sold a few. I had to go back and re-up, that’s when I knew I was on to something.
I stepped away from sewing and over that next year, I would get into a lot of printing and embroidery on T-shirts and hats. While doing this, I knew the whole time that wasn’t what I wanted to do. I was selling clothes but I wasn’t able to produce the garments I had envisioned. I stepped away from everything for about a year and a half. Within that time, I was hunting for a manufacturer and learning more of the business and technical side of cut n sew. Thank God within that time, I ended up finding a manufacturer through a good relationship.
I worked with them to create my first drop that consisted of the Clean Up Crew suits and Denim Puffer jackets. I had been away for a while so this drop was highly anticipated and very important for my brand as a whole. I knew that it was going to be something different than people had seen from Me. Fast forward to my release, I received a great reaction and my work spread. This led to Dej Loaf performing in a Clean up Crew through a good relationship. Also, Trinidad James rocking it as well.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but nothing ever is. It’s been a journey a lot of ups and downs but I’ve learned so much in so little time. A struggle of mine would be just learning the production side of this business. I took a lot of losses learning and understand the production side of this business. Also, just independently doing everything is tough, but it’s worth it.
No One’s Ordinary – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is based out of Houston, TX. We specialized in quality and Innovative garments. We are known for our creativity and unique way of marketing. That’s what people love most besides the actual product. That’s also what I’m most proud of is that we find a way to deliver our clothes a different way that people gravitate too. It’s also what sets us apart from others.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is doing something that you really want to do and are passionate about while earning a good income and impacting lives all at the same time.
