Meet Maru Gochez of Maruwear in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maru Gochez.

Maru, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have always liked everything that has to do with business or is business-related. My parents and my grandparents always had their own businesses and that really inspired me to start one of my own. It became one of my dreams and goals and now I can say that my dream is becoming a reality and I am so close to fulfilling it. All these dreams started in my home country, El Salvador, where I graduated from school. Then I came to the United States, where I was given the opportunity to go to school again because I did not know any English. I finished the four years of high school in two years by taking summer classes because I wanted to finish faster.

Since I was working while going to school. My very first job in the United States was working at fast-food restaurant as a cashier. I finished school and got my diploma, so I graduated from high school two times. Then I started working- as a babysitter and studying online marketing. I loved being a babysitter, but I got an offer to work as an insurance agent. I am currently still working full-time as an insurance agent and about a year ago, I was in the process of starting up my own business, Maruwear. My plan is to one day focus and work on growing my own business. I am proud that all my hard work is starting to pay off, thanks to God and to all my loved ones who have supported me since the beginning.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would not say it has been a smooth road, but I would not complain about it either, because all the hard work I have been putting into my business has paid off. I am doing something I love so all the obstacles I have faced did not stop me because I knew where I wanted to go. All those struggles that we all face are what teaches us that not everything in this life is easy. There were so many nights that I went without sleep and I had to sacrifice time with my loved ones because I was working on my business. My family has been there for me and that makes me feel like I am supported and headed in the right direction. One struggle I faced was I had to work full -time as an agent and manage my own responsibilities, such as my family, which is one of my priorities in life. Throughout this whole process, I learned how to manage my time and money.

Please tell us about Maruwear.
I am the owner of a growing local business called Maruwear, it is an online clothing brand that I created about a year ago, but I just established my business in 2019 and my website a couple of months ago. Since the beginning, I am the designer, creator, manufacturer, vendor, and shipper. I started off by simply making shirts for my family and friends and then people started asking about my clothing, from there my business just took off. All my products are made right here in Houston, I try to find the best materials, to make quality clothes that will make my customers happy and have them fall in love with my clothing so that they can come back and shop with me again. I also sell retail clothing, both casual and elegant. I also do wholesale clothing for enterprises. I make custom made designs on the shirts to give people exactly what they want and that is what I am most know for. My philosophy is to inspire other people to wear something that makes them feel good about themselves and provides comfort. That is why clothing is my passion because I create unique designs to make you feel comfortable in your own skin. What sets me apart from others is what I mentioned before, that I provide the best quality for my clients. I have made donations to several charitable organizations and will continue to support other charities in the future.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would probably devote more time to my business since I first created it. I had put it on hold for so long because I had other responsibilities that I needed to take care of before. I would have tried to manage both at the same time, rather than focus on just one.
