Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Rubio.
Melissa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been attracted to the world of fashion, as a young girl I would cut out pieces (shirts, dresses, shoes, etc.) from magazines and paste them into a journal creating outfits. While I dreamed of opening my own store the fear of failure drove me on another path.
I went on to study communications at the University of Houston, where my interest in entrepreneurship grew. After graduation, I accepted a job in corporate America and quickly realized I wasn’t following my passion or dream, and I started the process of opening my e-commerce store.
I launched my store in early 2019 and every day I am thankful I pushed the thought of fear out of my mind and pursued my dream.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like any small business the road has not been easy – we’ve experienced challenges. E-commerce stores are booming and you have to stand out from the crowd.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bellitude – what should we know?
Bellitude a word used to describe women in the early 1800s who were fashion-forward, elegant and expressed overall lovely qualities. We strive to offer the modern-day women fashionable pieces that embody the definition of Bellitude.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Those who don’t have determination to persevere tend to give up when encountering difficulties. If you don’t try to overcome those difficulties, you won’t have the chance to see your idea flourish. As an entrepreneur, there will be good days and bad – the biggest obstacle is staying determined when you feel like giving up is easier.
