Meet Sarah Hoffman of Pure Barre Houston – West U in West University / Rice Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hoffman.

Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2015 and moved to Dallas to work as a Business Analyst at Capital One. While working, I looked for a workout that I would stick to consistently; in high school and college, I always struggled to find an exercise routine and disliked most forms of fitness that I tried. I started taking classes at Pure Barre Plano and fell in love with the workout! After a year of taking classes, I auditioned to become a teacher and went to training. I taught in Plano for two years before moving to Houston. After a lot of discussions with the owner of the West U studio, I decided to purchase the location and make my passion for fitness my full-time job! Running a business is not an easy journey, but I believe that my background in finance and analytics has been immensely helpful in operating the business behind the scenes.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! With every journey, there are bumps in the road, especially with running a business. When I first took over the studio, I struggled to find a good work/life balance. I had to evaluate the best way to prioritize tasks since every day had such a varying scope of work. From the support of my amazing staff, I was able to better learn how to delegate and how to get comfortable letting go of things I couldn’t control. The best thing for me has been hiring a manager, Katie, who I work with daily to better manage the workload.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My family is spread across the country, but we are able to stay close to each other through frequent visits and our combined passion for the New York Giants. My favorite childhood memory is from February 3, 2008, when the Giants beat the undefeated New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. I still remember the shock across everyone’s faces when Tyree made his famous helmet catch and the crazy celebration that followed after the game ended. Now, we all try to meet up in a different city where the Giants are playing each season to go to an away game together!
