Today we’d like to introduce you to Thaddeus Tolbert.
Thaddeus, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began this journey as I started my coursework in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Bethune-Cookman University, which is when I also started writing my debut book, #GHETTO The Inner City Blues. I’ve always thought of myself as being the change that we speak of and need because a lot of people spoke of a good game, but I am a man of action. It was recently upon publishing my debut book that I thought of building and launching a brand to go along with the great works that I am displaying. Before you generate the work that is required of you, you write your name so that the work that you produce can be identified as yours. With Tolbert-Minded, I plan to display the change that is greatly talked about but is not produced by the same energy and masses.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road less traveled is far from smooth, reason why it is the road less traveled. I have encountered numerous barriers such environmental and social strain, trauma, careless mistakes, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideations. Though I faced many obstacles, I have managed to persevere and travel this road with the guidance of my Lord and savior.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tolbert-Minded – what should we know?
Tolbert-Minded was created to model and advocate for the change that marginalized lacks and is in dire need of. I am a Counseling student, Qualified Mental Health Professional, self-published author, and advocate for my community. I am proud of being a role model to my peers of all age groups and being the actual change my community desires, starting with my family and extending to other surrounding families. I believe what sets me apart is replacing trying with doing when it comes to goals and objectives. I also believe in starting of small and appreciating the process, which in my experience minimizes burnout, increases production and knowledge retention, and adds a greater appreciation to whatever it is that one believes in.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Without God, I would not have ability or natural supports that helps me through the good and bad days. I appreciate my wife Hophni Honore-Tolbert for always believing in me and being my neck. My parents Michale and Gizelle Tolbert for rearing me in the right direction in the best way that they know how. My wolfpack Henry Gillum, Keenan Jones, Jonathan Broussard, Vincent Richardson, Colby Collins, Yaphette Forward, Corrigan Johnson-Evans, and Edwin Jones. To my teammates who guide me in spirit Rashad Minix and Ferunell Smith; though they are no longer here in the flesh, they are vital contributors to the Tolbert-Minded vision.
