Meet Ingrid Read of Working Momkind

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ingrid Read.

Ingrid, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As soon as I became a mother, I realized how much people don’t tell you about motherhood and I honestly could not understand why. There were so many things I went through in the first few days, weeks, and months, that nobody ever told me about. Things none of my friends ever mentioned. Things my doctor didn’t say. Things my birthing class didn’t prepare me for. Things that blogs and articles forgot to mention.

One night I sat in my bed nursing my son and thought about what the ideal community of support and empowerment for moms could look like. I knew there was no way I was the only mom out there feeling this way and I was determined to find a way to connect with other moms, and that is how Working Momkind started. This all happened when I was on maternity leave, in between feedings and naps, because I wanted to build a community for moms where they could get and give advice, share tips, and feel supported on all things related to motherhood and their career. A place where they could go to network, get inspired, have a laugh or two, and see that despite what they might think, they are not alone.

Working Momkind is a community on a mission to empower, showcase, and support the hard work and talents of moms around the world. My goal is to bring moms together as a community to help empower them to become the best they can be, both as a mother and as a woman. After all, one can be an amazing mother and still chase her dreams! Today we are a virtual community of over 77 thousand moms that is growing every day and expanding to in-person events.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road at all, especially because I have to juggle the entrepreneurial life with my full-time job and of course, my family.

Despite the bumpy road, I would not have it any other way. I am so proud of myself for taking the leap and starting Working Momkind – I have met some amazing people along the way and truly enjoy connecting with other moms online and in real life. Reading all of the messages from moms telling me Working Momkind is the support they were looking for fills my heart with joy because I know I am moving in the right direction and fulfilling Working Momkind’s mission every day.

I know challenges like the ones I have faced so far are to be expected and more will come my way, but the end result is worth it. I am very excited for what is to come in 2020 and beyond for Working Momkind and I am very thankful for everyone who supports this community.

Working Momkind – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Working Momkind is a virtual and in-person community that supports moms in all stages of motherhood, it does not matter if they have a newborn or a 20-year-old.

The virtual community is how it all started in the first place and is essential especially because we have  moms who are part of Working Momkind’s community from all over the world. By providing access to this virtual community we are able to provide support for moms anytime and anywhere.

The in-person events allows us to connect in real life and help build communities of support and empowerment by bringing  moms together one community at a time.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband and my son have been my two biggest motivators through this process and continue to be every single day.

My husband has been a great team player and extremely supportive. He has seen the struggle mothers go through from conception to birth, postpartum, and returning to work, and fully supports working Momkind’s mission. My son is the reason why I created Working Momkind in the first place… he was my inspiration!
