Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Chioco.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jamie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from the Oklahoma School of Architecture in 1995 and immediately moved to Austin to find work. Looking for leaders in design I found myself employed at Dick Clark Architecture for the next several years. I gained knowledge and experience in many project types (restaurant, bar, retail and residential).
In 2005, I decided to start my own practice with the goal of elevating how we experience spaces and places. Currently, the firm still works on a variety of project types from small scale to large.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve been fortunate in that it has been a fairly smooth process. One issue that consistently comes to the surface though is growth and knowing when to add to our staff. It’s a complicated puzzle that takes into account workload, schedules and prospective new clients.
Chioco Design – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our firm’s work ranges from the intimate, a private residence, to the massive, an industrial adaptive reuse project, and everything in between. We have designed restaurants, bars, retail stores, multi-use facilities and public spaces. By having a diverse client base with various project types, we believe this to be an effective way to experience and contribute to a community.
We strive to exceed our clients’ expectations in process and result through active listening, collaboration and innovative design. We believe in a contextual design that fits into its built, natural and cultural environment. Our projects are functional, engaging and honest.
All this is to say, we believe elevated design elevates lives, for the individual and the collective.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is showing up to work every day and enjoying the people you work with. My staff and clients are at the heart of our success. Of course, running a business and making smart economic choices is integral as well.
