Today we’d like to introduce you to Amesia of OnlyMiss20six.com.
Amesia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea initially started back in 2011 when I was laid off from my corporate banking job, and I wanted to explore my love for fashion. I began setting up my website while finishing my bachelor’s degree in finance. I admit I was a bit intimidated with the process as I had no idea what I was doing.
Once I completed my degree, I was given the opportunity to start my corporate career in a profession that I had always dreamed of. Starting my new professional career and the cycle of life’s ups and downs distracted me from pursuing my personal passion for blogging, but nevertheless it continued to stay in the back of mind. Throughout the years, I have started and stopped my blog allowing fear and nonacceptance to set in prohibiting me from fully pursuing my dream. Recently I went through some changes in life that really made me sit back and re-evaluate what is important in life and decided to no longer waste energy on things where I do not feel happy or fulfilled in life. As a result, I decided fully embrace and start my blog OnlyMiss20six.com!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been smooth. Fear has been one of the main factors that has made the process a bumpy ride. Entering into an already saturated market and feeling as if I don’t have the right resources to be successful can be very intimidating. I read somewhere that “ It doesn’t matter how over-saturated the market is, if God called you to it, there is room for you.” I have strong faith and an intimate relationship with God, and this personal passion has stayed near to my heart for so long that I had no choice but to give it a try. My new acronym for FEAR is “Face Everything AND RISE” and that is exactly what I intend to do!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Well, my new blog is called Onlymiss20six.com and it’s a space for me to communicate and share my interests and love of fashion, travel, beauty, and my love of being a mom. My blog is a way of connecting with women other mothers who love being a mommy but also enjoy a good fashion look or beauty trend! Just because we are moms doesn’t mean you can’t look good while doing so. What I am most proud of is getting it up off the ground and running and I’m excited for what the future holds and ultimately what it will evolve to become.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Although the blogging/influencer industry is highly saturated, I don’t see it slowing down anytime. There is room for everyone, we live in a digital age and the internet doesn’t have a max capacity at the moment. Many people no longer rely on big retailers to influence their habits in purchases or recommendations for life’s essentials and desires. People want to see real people with real experiences. If there were any big changes or shifts that I would foresee happening within this industry, it would be that it will continue to grow with innovative and advanced ways of allowing ordinary people to connect and relate to one another.
