Meet Casey Williams of No Excuses Foundation in Med Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Casey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Through my years of training and coaching, I noticed a lot of the kids that we were dealing with an excuse making mindset. As a result, we found it necessary to develop a foundation that could focus on eradicating this excuse making mindset that often plagues disadvantage youth. That is when we founded the No Excuses Foundation in 2016.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the main challenges is getting kids to see their true potential and capability verses focusing on their limitations as well as dealing with emotional behaviors. We also find it challenging raising the funds to support our efforts, so we are constantly working in the community to get more supporters and sponsors.

Please tell us about No Excuses Foundation.
No Excuses Foundation was founded in 2016 and is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization that organizes sporting, music and fashion events to raise funds for scholarships for deserving high school and college students. Our purpose is to elevate the educational awareness, self-esteem and overall conscientiousness of underprivileged youth through life skills, counseling, general etiquette lessons and sports.

We teach and reinforce these concepts through Professionals in Business, Fashion, Music and Athletics who are living examples within our community. By creating a bond with the youth through our programs and events, we set out to eradicate the self- doubt and fear that too often cripples America’s youths and acts as traitors to the subconscious quest of betterment we all share.

One of our biggest event takes place during the summer, the No Excuses Pro League, which is an elite level basketball league for NBA, overseas, college, and individual players possessing exceptional talent and/or skills. This is a fiercely competitive league that is officiated by NBA, G-League and Division 1 officials. We provide elite players a place to stay in shape while honing their skills in a safe environment as well as provide the Houston Community an exciting event to witness such great talent up close and personal free of charge! The 2020 Season begins, Sunday June 7th at the Fonde Community Center, 110 Sabine St, Houston, TX 77007, and every Sun, Mon & Wed for three months.

In conjunction with the league, we host our annual NEX Fashion Affair, which is our summer Fundraiser Fashion Show an ALL WHITE event. Pro Athletes from our league give back and walk in the show to help raise awareness as well as top models, local fashion designers and boutiques. The purpose is to raise scholarships for high school and college students furthering their education. Our 2020 show will take place on Sat August 15th. To stay up to date with all of our programs and events, please keep up with our social media pages and our website.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
For starters my mom leads by example and sacrificed for us and has always helped others despite not having much. My sister and I have followed her lead and have done the same with our resources. Ruby and Don Clayton took me in when I was a teenager when I needed a place to stay, and they made me feel that their home was my home. They inspired me to pay it forward by opening my doors to others in need, understanding it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish. Johnny Flew has been a mentor to me as an adult along with Bernard Pink. I also had great support from my wife and my family including my sister and brother in law who helped support the foundation financially. Our team has been a great help including Sharon Fletcher, Karen Thomas, Andre Potts, playing a huge role in the success of the foundation along with Paula Harris, Staci Bell and David Burrell.
