Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Newell and Marquita Smith.
Crystal and Marquita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Deciding to start a business itself was not an easy decision. We would always make the statement to each other after a long day at work or a long work week that we can’t wait to work for ourselves. With everything we do now days being on the internet, one day looking for a part-time job that I could do from home, I would see the ads for starting an E-commerce business. And of course being on social media, you see a lot of posts and ads for different small boutiques. I called Marquita and asked if she wanted to go in on a business with me. She said, sure why not. I told her the idea of a children’s store, which most would probably look at us crazy because neither one of us have kids. However, we are surrounded by them and I think that those little humans make the best fashion statements. While researching and learning more about the children’s clothing industry, we step out of faith and decided to give a chance and here we are.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
LAWD NO!!! It has not been smooth at all. First, learning to navigate the e-commerce world itself was a challenge. Then making sure you have properly established the business starting with the state paperwork down to managing the website while we both are still working full-time jobs.
Learning and studying the industry and keeping up with fashion trends for children was a lot of work. You really do not realize the different sizes that are offered in children sizes. It is crazy. We have low days and high days. Many days of trial and error and let’s not talk about the crying from frustration. But through it all, we have stuck through and kept going.

Bow and Beau is a chic children’s boutique that offers the latest fashionable clothing and accessories for newborns and toddlers. We sell both boy’s and girl’s clothing and our sizes range from newborn to 6T, Our clothing selection range from everyday wear to special occasions and holiday themed outfits.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are in the process of integrating kid’s clothing options for preteens and adding the option for our customers to be able to pay for the purchases through installment plans.
Our future plans are to have a few pop-up shops in Houston, Dallas, and other cities as we go along.
