Meet Dr. Keisha Davis of Dance, Health, & Fitness and AskPath

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Keisha Davis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I knew as a child that I wanted to be a physician. From college on, I started focusing on medicine and also my health. I changed my diet and started working out and dancing vigorously. During medical school, west African and Caribbean dance became part of my repertoire in my free time as well as weight training.

Currently, I am a triple board-certified physician in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology m. I have always wanted to help family members and others understand their diseases and diagnoses so that they can be in control of their health. From this need, AskPath LLC was created. I created a website that is going to be a resource for physicians and patients to be able to ask questions about laboratory tests or biopsy results and get an answer by a board-certified pathologist within 24 to 48 hours.

During all of this time, I have always dedicated a lot of time to my health. Even with two children, I make sure that I take time for myself and from this passion Dance Health Fitness was formed. I also am an ACE certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor and I like to teach others how to maintain a busy life and still be in shape mentally and physically. Dance Health & Fitness LLC teaches dance and fitness classes online as well as in person. I felt that there was a need for busy professionals to be able to still get the same adequate training and help and support online when they don’t have time to make it to the gym.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the first challenges was dealing with racism and bias during my medical training. The impartiality and mistreatment was an unseen barrier to learning and success but only made me wiser and stronger and made me show others the many talents and strengths that I have as an individual.

The most recent obstacle was losing my job after eight years in the medical center. I learned that nothing is promised and that my health and my family should come first. I also learned to make sure I had my own stream of income so that no one else but me has the power to control my fate.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dance, Health, & Fitness and AskPath – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
AskPath is a special company that I am proud to have started on my own. Patients have the ability to get answers to their lab questions right away not having to wait and be anxious for the next appointment. Also, pathology is a hidden field in medicine that many do not understand because pathologists usually don’t speak to patients. Yet, I believe pathology should be in the forefront as part of the healthcare team.

For Dance Health Fitness, I am proud to have created a business that caters to professionals like myself. I know the struggle with time and balance is difficult and usually hinders us from taking care of ourselves. But as a healthcare professional we also have an example to set and need to take care of our health not only to look good but feel good. You will not find many personal trainers that are also physicians. So I can relate to many things I can relate to being tired, being stressed, and too busy. I have the knowledge of medicine and personal training to make sure that everybody has an individualized plan to get the best consistent and long-term results.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I will continue to make my businesses grow. I want Dance Health Fitness to provide fitness and training programs for professionals and professional training schools. Askpath plans to be a resource in doctor’s offices so patients can be given tokens to get instant access to a board-certified pathologist and have their questions answered on their own terms.
