Today we’d like to introduce you to Kodi Martinez.
Kodi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I remember when I was in Jr. High and some of my friends told me they were jealous because my mom would let me wear top and bottom eyeliner and mascara to school, since then I have always wore makeup, I may not have always been good at it but I still wore it! When I was in high school, I would watch YouTube tutorials on full-face makeup at 7am before school. After high school, I started to post my makeup looks on my personal Instagram for a while then for about a good year, I kind of fell off posting my makeup. I have made many Instagram pages and then deleted them because I lacked confidence in myself and my work.
Then on June 18th, 2018 I made an Instagram page to post my makeup looks, daily products I used and random products I would try. I was enjoying that and happy with it but I wanted to take it a step further so I asked some friends to be my model so I could practice and have content to post. Once I started posting looks, I had girls asking me to do their makeup for prom and date nights. Now I am doing makeup for every occasion and get to work with some amazing other artists in the industry!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always. I think my biggest struggle was within myself. I would frequently get discouraged with my work or would always worry about what others would think if posted certain looks or if certain people would like my makeup skills or not. I am self-taught and don’t work for a company so I feel like my work only comes back on me, I work full time in an office Monday-Friday so I do miss out on a lot of opportunities to work more and grow my business.

Kodi & Co. Makeup is an on location makeup service. I specialize in natural glam and wedding makeup.
I am most proud of my customer service and my growth as an artist and person. I always try to make my clients feel beautiful and look like themselves. I am here to enhance everyone’s natural beauty!
Besides doing my client’s makeup, online and in-person I always get asked a bunch of questions about products and what would work best for them and I enjoy helping others out in that way as well. I try to always go the extra mile for them!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think my proudest moment was booking my first wedding. I went from doing 1-2 girls makeup for prom from booking a whole wedding by myself.
Also, this past year I got a lot of inquiries about hair as well. I have worked with other hairstylists in the past and now we are able to work together and book both hair and makeup. The other artists and I have worked a few weddings together and I’m really excited to see how far we go!
