Today we’d like to introduce you to Teara Robinson.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been playing dress up since a little girl. Fashion has always been something I’ve been passionate about. I would ‘dress to nines’ everywhere I’d go…still do..Since the age of 13, my mom has been motivating me to start a YouTube channel (to share my eye for style) but I never thought to take it serious. It wasn’t until I got to college that I decided to fully pursue my passion for the fashion when I pursued a degree in fashion merchandising at Louisiana state university. After graduating college, I moved to Houston to embark on a new journey. Initially, I had expected my time here to be temporary as I had plans of moving to California to launch styling career. Of course, the reality struck and everything change.
For about a year and a half, I prayed for God to lead me to take leap of faith and reveal to me areas that I needed to improve on personally. During this phase of self-development and faith-building, I invested in filming equipment and journaled every idea I could imagine for my ideal YouTube channel. God was sending me confirmation but I didn’t get out of my own head until around July of 2019. I began by filming a few IGTV videos but I still hesitant about launching a YouTube! In October, I told myself that no matter what I would start my YouTube channel before the end of the year. On December 11th of 2019, I finally conquered my fear and launched my YouTube Channel, ‘Teara Shalaneal’.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been an easy road for me and I’m honestly okay with that because before starting I knew my dream career would take a lot of hard work and dedication! The first struggle for me was just getting out my own head. At one point, I wasn’t truly believing in myself and what I was capable of. I was praying and fasting but I wasn’t planting seeds with my prayers. I had to overcome a struggle that most face which is remaining consistent and disciplined. I constantly prayed to become more consistent and disciplined before I even started because I didn’t want to dive in when I wasn’t fully ready. My advice would be NO MATTER WHAT MOVE AT YOUR OWN PACE. Of course we want people to fuel us with motivation and support our ambitions but until WE are truly ready it won’t happen. I also learned that the key is to NEVER STOP PLANNING AND WRITING YOUR IDEAS DOWN because MANIFESTATION IS REAL!

I am a fashion expert/style specialist. People recognize me for my styling content and fashion expertise I share on my social media / YouTube channel, TearaShalaneal. What sets me apart is that I love sharing my passion with the world while also helping others find their confidence/authenticity through fashion. I am also supportive of all women as I want us all to make an impact and change the world (while remaining fierce and fabulous)! I believe that when we are dressed our best we feel better about ourselves and we honestly THINK BETTER!
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
At one point, I was looking for a mentor but it never happened. I’ve been to a few networking events that I found from Instagram and Eventbrite. I would love to do more networking as well! Though I don’t have a personal mentor, makeupshayla, Beyonce, Kylie Jenner, Amrezy, J.Bolin are just a few that I gain inspiration and motivation from.
