Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kimberley N. Booker.
Dr. Booker, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Young Ladies of Elegance was started in September 2004 at Eisenhower 9th Grade School after seeing many young ladies needing positive mentors and role models.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Many parents of color do not invest enough in leadership programs or models on how to be committed.
Please tell us about Young Ladies of Elegance .
God inspired the young Ladies of Elegance. It is my charge and my honor to empower young ladies. I am so passionate about this organization, and I treat all members like they are my daughters, and I am their mom. I prayed for a daughter and God blessed me with hundreds of daughters who I am still very close to. What sets this organization apart from others is that we are God-fearing women empowering young ladies to have high self-esteem and be leaders amongst their peers. We are not a cheerleader team or a step team. We are a leadership team going out in the communities empowering young ladies. We boost self-confidence, self-love, and self-awareness. We reflect on our now actions you shape our tomorrow.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Having both my mom and my dad with my two older brothers and me.
