Meet Natasha Ero of TEGNA in Galleria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Ero.

Natasha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up watching ABC13. After seeing Melanie Lawson and Gina Gaston anchoring the news, I knew I wanted to do the same. I decided in middle school, I would major in Broadcast Journalism in college. After graduating from the University of Houston, I applied for a news producer position at 12NewsNow in Beaumont.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not really, there were a few obstacles along the way. I wasn’t accepted to the University of Houston the first time I applied. I went to the University of Houston-Downtown, then transferred to the University of Texas-Arlington before being accepted to UH. I was a commuter student at U of H. I lived in Katy, so I would drive an hour to class every day and spend over an hour in traffic coming home. Due to my long commute, it was difficult participating in student organizations. Despite that, I was still able to be a host for CoogTV, the student-run video network at the University of Houston.

Please tell us about the company. What sets you apart from others?
I am a news producer for 12NewsNow, a TEGNA station. I produce the noon and 4 pm show, which is called “The Beat.” The Beat is our lifestyle show. I book guests to come on the shows. TEGNA Inc. is a media company innovating in the digital age. TEGNA’s purpose is to serve the greater good of our communities – through empowering stories, impactful investigations, and innovative marketing services. What sets me apart from others is my love of acting. It has affected so many facets of my life. Acting has taught me how to deeply emphasize with others.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are traveling with my mother. She took me to Hollywood for my 14th birthday, because I was so fascinated with Los Angeles. We’ve also traveled to London and Nigeria. Some of my other favorite memories are participating in plays at High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. A few of my favorites were the Curious Savage and Dearly Departed. Another fond memory from my childhood was watching ABC13 with my grandmother. One of my favorite segments was “Slime in the Ice Machine” with Marvin Zindler.
