Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Valencia.
Jorge, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was a little boy, I loved looking through the pages of fashion magazines my mom would buy from the supermarket. What caught my eye the most from these magazines were the angles and color. Later on, at the age of 16, I noticed someone had an interest in photography, and I wanted to impress them so badly; at that time, I grabbed a Point & Shoot camera and studied photoshop every day that summer! Fast forward to age 18. I went to Lamar University for Art, where my main focus was in photography. Now I do a lot of my shoots at Superb Studio in Houston and have also gained a new love for wedding photography.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From the beginning to the present time, I am my biggest critic. I am also improving and forever growing.

Modern Valencia is my business that specializes in portrait, studio, and color photography; I am also branching out to become a wedding photographer. What I am most proud of is my in-studio work with natural light.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Having an eye for fashion helps me determine what colors compliment each other. Being able to connect with my clients and understand their needs is a big part of my work process. It makes a more comfortable environment when there is communication.
