Meet LaShonda Johnson, CFED of MsLWJCFED in West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaShonda Johnson, CFEd.

LaShonda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In August of 2002, I resigned from Corporate America and stepped into the world of entrepreneurship. After spending 16 years with a 1st and 15th paycheck, it was extremely frightening, but I was confident and up for the challenge. I chose to form my first company distributing capital medical equipment. For a few years, I had observed a few of my friend’s husbands, who had successfully entered the industry. After taking a closer look, I decided to dive in! The industry was not female-friendly nor for the timid in spirit. Despite many obstacles that veered into my path, I was able to become a well respected and very successful capital medical equipment distributor. Dedication to my craft and successful sales production led me to a national sales manager position holding the responsibility of training and developing my fellow counterparts. After several financially successful years in business, a close friend asked me how I planned to retire as I am no longer contributing to a 410K plan and I am now the company—not having an intelligent answer to this question resulted in an aggressive personal pursuit of financial literacy. The education was so life-changing that I became a Licensed Certified Financial Educator and formed my second company committed to providing financial education, support and services to individuals, families and business owners. I have been blessed over the past eleven years to help many clients in their pursuit of financial freedom. Additionally, I have been able to host podcasts, radio shows, write blogs and articles, and appear at countless speaking engagements and interviews on the topic of financial literacy and personal money management. I’m looking forward to changing the lives of many more people in my community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur has not been easy. Self-funding and maintaining businesses in two unfamiliar industries was very difficult. Spending time away from my family, traveling to do business, dealing with rejection, and the uncertainty of working for myself have all presented their challenges along the way. No matter how scary being an entrepreneur has been, each day, I wake up and face my fears head-on giving my whole heart to what I’ve committed to doing in business. Being a womanpreneur is not easy, but it’s worth it.

Please tell us about your practice.
2020 marks my eleventh year as an Independent Licensed Financial Professional in the Financial Services Industry. Becoming a Certified Financial Educator enabled me to specialize in educating my clients about personal money management along with providing them industry leading products, services and support. LaShonda Johnson, CFEd (MsLWJCFED on Instagram, is known for spending the time necessary to equip my clients with basic financial concepts enough for them to become an active participant in the financial planning process. I am most proud of the hundreds of people that have entrusted me with the task of helping them plan for their future. Developing a long term relationship with my clients and utilizing years of experience to assist them  throughout their journey to financial independence is what sets me apart from others.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future include expanding my business to add additional lines of services, collaborations to bridge the gap between wealth and health and to build and train a team of independent financial service professionals to work with me in multiple states.
