Meet Mista GoodBar of THE REMEDY in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mista GoodBar.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mista. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began hosting the monthly PAID IN FULL hip hop event (I still currently do), which led to me hosting various shows and events around the Houston area. In June of 2017, I began my own radio broadcast THE REMEDY on KPFT 90.1 FM, where I play neosoul, r&b, rare grooves, independent soul, classic soul, house and acid jazz. I also ventured into podcasting for a year, as part of the Soul Food Podcast trio.

THE REMEDY will celebrate three years on June 1st, 2020.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been a number of setbacks and challenges. THE REMEDY was initially being broadcast twice a week, but internal issues at the station caused that to end after eight months. Paid In Full has had a number of setbacks, dealing with venues primarily trying to change the foundation of what we do (DJ Nimbus, DJ Burb and myself).

Please tell us about THE REMEDY.
THE REMEDY is a brand that represents excellence and quality taste in neosoul and R&B. My goal is to introduce open-minded listeners of a large scale to music that would not be readily shared on the primary radio platforms. I want to combat the opinion that radio plays the same songs repetitively by being the change that I and others want to see. I am supremely proud of the respect the brand has received from artists stateside and internationally, as well as being able to support the supremely talented artists from Houston.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have probably tried to begin sooner!
