Today we’d like to introduce you to Anie Eshiet.
Anie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started with an idea and a drive. I fell in love with makeup my freshman year in high school. From the jump, I realized that as a dark-skinned female, I did not have a lot of options in the makeup world. Being the headstrong independent woman that I was raised to be, I wanted to fix that for every dark-skinned female. But, as time went on and I grew, I realized that dark-skinned people are not the only ones that are “excluded” from the beauty industry. So here we are, I created Aniefiok Cosmetics so I can include the excluded. I intend to push a brand that will be all-inclusive, affordable, informational, fun, and of course, quality.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a pretty smooth road I can not complain. HA. I wish OF COURSE the road has been ROC-KEY. There have been countless struggles but to name a few, self-doubt, lack of prayer, and time management have been consistent struggles that I’ve faced while building my brand. To my woman who are packing their bags and getting ready to start their journey here is some advice: don’t forget to pack your Bible, planner, and always remember that “The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”—Confucius
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Aniefiok Cosmetics – what should we know?
Well plain and simple, I do makeup! What sets my brand apart is that I’m all about bringing in the fun to makeup. I like for my spaces (whether it be YouTube, Blogs, etc.) to be safe spaces where people can really be their true selves without fear of judgement. I want makeup to be relatable as well. Not everyone can achieve those intricate looks okay? I’m mostly known for being a headstrong beauty guru who just wants to make the best of every situation. All together what makes me feel like I did my job is when I am able to bring a smile to someone’s face. Those are my proudest moments.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
STAY PRAYED UP AND START NOW. If you’re looking for a sign this is it. BE CONSISTENT, and always remember that YOU ARE YOU’RE OWN BIGGEST SUPPORTER. At the end of the day no one has your back like you have your own back. Keep at it, the finish line gets closer and closer every single day.
