Shannon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started making waist beads for myself. Ten years ago as a visual tool during my weight loss journey. Although I lost weight, I gained confidence and a renewed sense of sexy. I began selling waist beads because I wanted other women to feel what I felt. Life takes a toll on a woman’s body. Despite weight, size, or shape, ALL women deserve to feel sexy and confident!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s hasn’t always been easy. Many women weren’t interested. Some thought waist beads were for thin women only. So many women weren’t confident enough to show their bellies to have their strands tied! I use my personal experience with waist beads to help give women a little nudge into a new journey. A journey of self-love!

My business is called Dainty Custom Made Waist Beads. Waist beads are rooted in African culture. They have various uses. They serve as a right of passage of young women into womanhood. Wives wear them exclusively for their husbands. They are worn for fashion, monitoring weight loss, etc. The reasons women wear them are vast!
