Meet Trailblazer Krystal Huggins

Well, how I got here is simple! lol, one of my best friends is actually an esthetician and one year for my birthday, she says “ I’m going to do some lash extensions on you as a gift for your birthday” I was super excited because I had never had them before. So just like she said, she did them for me and I fell in love!!!! I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror lol. I thought to myself, “ oh man, these lashes make my eyes look so pretty!! I was addicted, so I kept getting them done and after a few months, I wanted to learn. I sat down with my friend and got some information on how to go about getting certified. I wasn’t really interested in the money aspect of it (although money is important) I just wanted to make women feel beautiful. So I got certified by my friend since she is licensed and I began practicing and displaying my talents on social media. I really enjoy doing lashes. I’m always excited to see the end results.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wish I could say that the road was easy, but it has not been. Truth be told as much as I love doing lashes, I quit once and said I wasn’t going to continue. I was very discouraged and the more I looked at other people’s work on social media, the more I realized that my work wasn’t that great. I started doubting myself and allowed the negative thoughts to enter my mind and stay there. I no longer believed in myself and what I was capable of. It wasn’t until I met a now good friend of mine and she started encouraging me and really pushing me! It was because she was doing lashes as well! That helped out a lot! I was able to talk to her and kind of vent because we were both new in the lash industry and I also knew she wasn’t going to judge me. She knew exactly how I felt. That put fire under my butt lol! I hadn’t really shared that info with anyone except her because I really didn’t think people would understand. I also had another good friend help me come up with marketing ideas and promotions to get my name out there. SHE STAYED ON ME!!! lol I appreciated that.

The road is not going to always be easy! But we have to always believe in ourselves and the one thing that I did learn was to NOT compare myself to anyone else. It doesn’t matter if they are doing the same services as you, we are all different and we all have our own lane that we need to stay in. What’s for you is for you! And surround yourself with people that will encourage you and won’t let you give up on yourself.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bai Lashes – what should we know?
I am a certified Lash Technician. I provide services for Classic Lash Extension, Hybrid Lash Extensions, Volume Lash Extensions and Lash Lifts! And pretty soon, I’ll be launching my line of Mink Lash strips. The thing that I am most proud of is the fact that I did this for myself. I didn’t look for anyone to give me anything. I did my research. I got my certifications. I created this business on my own. Yes, I had people that I could go to ask questions and thank god for my cousin, she was there when I would get frustrated trying to figure out the business aspect of it all (business plans, investments,etc). So much goes into a business, not just the services you’re providing. Even though I gave up, I’m so happy I was able to come back and continue to strive. And I’m continuing to learn and set higher standards for myself. I will continue to provide excellent service to my clients. I will continue to expand my business over time. Things are changing everyday and I will continue to grow as a business along with my clientele. When I realize it’s something more they want or need from me as a business owner in the lash world, I will do my best to provide that for them. I think that’s what’s going to set me apart from others. You have to keep your clients coming back and wanting more.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Definitely read your bible. I also have this app on my phone called Sprinkle of Jesus, it has daily messages that motivate you and inspire you. And I love it. But, honestly, I am inspired by my circle of friends and family. The more I see them pushing and reaching their goals, the more that encourages me to aim higher for myself. My village is my motivation. They just don’t know how proud i am of them, and I want them to be just as proud of me as I am of them.
