Meet Laura Cano-Perez of Balloon Luxe Events in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Cano-Perez.

Laura, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am 38. Hard work has always been a part of my adult life. Shortly after turning 18, I moved out of my very strict parents’ home. I had a job at a dealership and my own apartment. By the age of 22, I made my first six figures and bought my first home that year. I made a career in Finance at a Houston Dealership, and I loved it. I enjoyed closing deals and the money was flowing. I dedicated all of my hours to my career. I missed a lot of parties, family gets together’s, and some holidays, but it was who I was. I did that for almost 15 years.

Fast forward to meeting my husband, getting married in 2016, and getting pregnant. EVERYTHING CHANGED. I went back to work after my maternity leave, but my heart was breaking. I had a yearning feeling to be with my baby. After about a year, with my husband’s support, I made the very hard decision to stop working and stay home with my daughter. She is now three and will be 4 in December. A year ago or so, she tells me, “Mami’s don’t work, only Papi’s do” that hit me hard. I know that I am her 1st role model, and although I strongly believe that staying home with her has been the best decision, I also know that I have to show her WORK ETHIC, how to be independent, and that she can do anything she wants to. Women contribute just as much as men.

When she turned three, we gave her her 1st big birthday party and I knew I wanted a balloon garland. I asked a friend to come over and show me how its done, one bottle of Prosecco later, BAM we made a balloon garland, and I loved it. I then made one for an NYE party and later for a friend’s birthday. During that time, my family and some friends were out to dinner, and we all went around the table to share our 2020 goal. Mine was to generate some income without having to be away from my daughter. So I decided to put myself out there on Social Media a month or so later a Pandemic hit. I was concerned, but I was determined to give it 100% even in the mist of a pandemic, and it seems like it has all happened overnight. We are booked for weeks. It has been so fun putting a smile on peoples faces. People who had to cancel their plans do to a virus. Graduations, baby showers, birthday, you name it. To be a small part of their joy for a special occasion is so filling. I love creating something beautiful, in my own home, and then sharing it with others. With the support of my loving husband and my family, we have great plans for BLE. So you can say it started with a DIY, or with my want to show my daughter, GIRLS CAN. I hope to make her proud.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not all!! So like I said. I am a mom first and for most. I have mom duties, a very needing toddler. I also have a home to tend dinner to cook, etc… My husband works at least 50 hrs. On top of all that, a pandemic hits. So I started having to take my daughter with me to my jobs. I couldn’t just drop her off at grandmas. I’m on a ladder and my daughter spills her chips at a customer’s home, for example. She has been by my side this whole time. I love her, but it’s exhausting.

There are times that the jobs are so big that not everything fits in my SUV, so we’ve started renting Uhaul each busy weekend. So now looking to buy a transit van. Staying relevant on Social Media is a job on its own, and its the one I dislike the most.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Balloon Luxe Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a self-taught Balloon Stylist. We offer styled balloon decor for all occasions. I believe in celebrating every tiny victory. I believe that what sets my company apart is our grit and our grace. Each is event booked is given 100 of the attention required to make it special. We thrive in making your idea come to life, and nothing warms my heart more that seeing a happy face when they see what we have created for them. A creation that starts at my loving home, and then t your special event.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The Houston community has each others back. I am born and raised in Houston and I’ve seem some hard things happen that only brings us closer together. I also love our Houston rappers. 😉

The only thing I can say that I like the least is when I see homeless people in our town. I wish I could help all of them.
