Meet Mrs. Susie D. Williams of Working Against Repeating Situations Community Organization (W.A.R.S.)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mrs. Susie D. Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mrs. Susie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Mrs. Susie D. Williams, Houston native, grew up in the Greater Fifth Ward area, where she graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School, and later continued her education at Houston Community College and San Jacinto College pursuing a career in teaching EC-6 Grade. 2008 she found her love for working with children when she became an early childcare teacher at the Phyllis Wheatley Childcare Center, but it was there she discovered her true purpose and calling; when she was asking to mentor the teen moms that they serviced. She knew at that moment she wanted to be that person, that person who made people feel good about themselves, that person who believed in the happiness of things, that person who others can come to for comfort or words of encouragement. She knew at that moment she had to become her.

In 2013, Susie launched Divinity Expressions Outreach Center and she had great goals for it. However, being young and eager she allowed others to dictate the message she wanted for others because they threw so many possibilities at her that it no longer became what she imagined. It bothered her so much she never touched DEOC again. Nevertheless, she has an ambitious soul and it can never rest. For six years she pondered on ways to revamp her organization because she seen a great need for her services. Susie, is a great mother of four and wife of nine years. She has faced many of life challenges, yet she doesn’t see herself as a victim.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As we all may know that when starting any kind of business obstacles/challenges are lurking around the corner. The first challenge Susie had to face was the lack of knowledge she had going into the nonprofit field. She started back in 2013 with Divinity Expressions Outreach Center. Susie, knew she had to get a 501c3, but didn’t know what it was, so she asked a family friend to help her out. Trusting this person, she never took the time out to learn what things was, which resulted in a denial for her organization status. On top of everything when she went to the young lady who helped, she had none of the paperwork and was as clueless as Susie was. Then later down the line when Susie began to find her way back to birthing this project, she was faced with judgement and naysayers. She didn’t have the support she thought she needed to proceed. No one understood why she would put her time into a nonprofit organization when she can be making money. As always Susie would say, ‘I am not seller, I’d rather give it away. Why make money off my people when I know they barely have it.”

We’d love to hear more about the organization.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There is no luck. Susie believes in Law of Attraction. She believes that what you put out into the world is what you get back. Treat others how you want to be treated. Hard work pays off, and Faith without work is dead. So, no luck just patience and doing her part as an asset to the world.
