Conversations with the Inspiring Kaila Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaila Washington.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaila. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, it all started years ago when I was in high school and would make custom bows and other accessories just for fun. After I graduated from The University of Alabama, I moved to Charlotte all alone and found myself needing something more than just a 9-5 to keep me happy. A light bulb finally went off when I was sitting on the couch watching the camp-themed MET gala that it was time to get back to making hair accessories something I always loved to do and that was when Kouture Klips was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My mother always told me nothing worth having would be easy and boy was she right lol! Starting kouture Klips while finding myself and adjusting to this new lifestyle was not a smooth road. There were setbacks or what I like to setups, like packing issues, ensuring high-quality products and others doubting my visions, just to name a few. All normal when starting a business but it took me trusting God, believing in myself and brand and preserving even when things got tough.

Tell us more about the business.
Kouture Klips is all about making a statement. So we specialize in all things hair accessories. Our favorites are custom clips. Being able to create that finishing touch for teams, organizations, weddings and individuals is what we live for! I am so proud of my brand for being able to be apart of someone’s statement because everyone has something to say somehow. what sets Kouture Klips apart from others is not only our quality but our ability to give others the opportunity to create something just for them.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
The biggest barriers today for female leaders are others doubting the strength and ability of female leaders. For years women are underestimated and overlooked but times are changing and us female leaders are making sure our statements are being made.
