Today we’d like to introduce you to LaToya King.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I honestly feel like God has just opened my eyes to so many talents and interests that I really did not see within myself. I have experienced different professional fields and it is now where I feel free and happy about what it is I do. To start, I have always been interested in politics and the criminal justice system.
I wanted to help people and fight for what was right, so I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. I worked for a government agency for 12 1/2 years. In 2011, still employed at this agency, I opened a business called Reign of Elegance. I still have it to this day. Although I was able to provide for my family, the workload was high and the pay was low. The stress level was constantly increasing and it began to take a toll on my physical and mental health. With all of this going on, I did a lot of praying and a lot of crying, I asked God to open my eyes to my capabilities and I came up with the idea to open up an online clothing boutique. I stepped out on faith, submitted my resignation and opened a business called Ambrosial by Reign of Elegance in 2019. Another opportunity presented itself and as an addition to my boutique, I became a licensed vendor for the best sorority on the planet, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and I design, create & provide apparel for my sorors. My journey is not over, I feel like it’s just begun.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the bumps in the road for me has been suffering with anxiety. People who do not battle with this would not understand how it can affect your ability to work efficiently. I was diagnosed with anxiety while working at my previous place of employment which was one of the reasons I made the decision to choose me for once. I had to put myself first. Now that I run my own business, I have learned to manage my stress levels, keep my anxiety under control and keep pushing forward. I want to encourage anyone that is struggling with any type of mental illness to take care of you first, but never let it define your capabilities or limit your success!

Sweets by Reign of Elegance is a business where I bake and create treats of all kinds. I enjoy making these items for events because I love being able to place smiles on faces and make that special day perfect. I am known for creating beautiful designs that are personalized and edible. I bake and make delicious desserts cupcakes, cakepops, chocolate covered strawberries & candy apples are just a few.
Ambrosial by Reign of Elegance is an online boutique that specializes in providing gorgeous jewelry and apparel to women of all sizes. I am known for the statement pieces and beautiful looks available on my website.
I am most proud of my excellent customer service and my overall ability to make customers happy. What sets me apart from the rest is despite everything, I am able to be a wonderful spouse to my husband, a wonderful mother of four and a successful owner of two businesses all while giving back to my community.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’d say my favorite memory from my childhood is when my entire family would go to my grandmother’s home and celebrate holidays. To me, it was more than just a holiday, we were able to enjoy one another. My grandparents are no longer here so I truly cherish those moments. Genuine family love, smiles and hugs.
