Today we’d like to introduce you to Steffon Johnson.
Steffon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The BY STEFFON business you see now, was not always what it currently is. While obtaining my master’s degree in Health communication, life hit me hard. A fraternity brother actually blessed me with a job working for Texas Southern University that paid little to nothing but blessed me in other ways such as housing seeing. Which I am forever grateful for. I have always been a hustler, but while staying on campus with limited funds. I had to come up with a way to make money to maintain a decent living. Not trying to put stress on myself and also not wanting to be stagnant made me realize that I needed to find something that I enjoyed and turn it into a business. One day during the summer of 2018, I was online shopping and a friend of mine suggested that since I am always “online window shopping” as they called it, I should create my own store and sell clothing. After doing research I noticed that the market for women clothing was saturated with options, but there was really nothing for the fellas.
Although all my clothing is unisex, it is dedicated to the men that needed a little bit for more in the fashion game. Things moved pretty quickly and by October 26th, I had launched an online boutique for men called ‘Shop Official’. The brand offered image consulting, pulling for stylist events, and of course quality pieces. ‘Shop Official’ lasted until May of 2019, where owner Steffon Johnson decided to close down shop due to graduating and settling into a new chapter of his life, but before the closing, Johnson hosted a major pop up shop for all supports to come see and purchase items on hand. The event was a success. Fast forwarding to 2020, Steffon Johnson decided it was time to relaunch his clothing business, but with a little more love imbedded this time. Under a new name, ‘BY STEFFON’ I wanted to dedicate this to all the TRENDSETTERS ACROSS THE GLOBE. ‘BY STEFFON’ is now up and running, proving all servers as before. Fire pieces with a fire experience.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Running a clothing business is far from easy. My biggest frustration come from always wanting and needing to please your customer, knowing what they want and trying to be sure that you as the owner stay updated on the latest trends. Of course you cannot please everyone, but you do want your customer to return when they have a need.

BY STEFFON is an online store that provides both casual and street wear. You can find many different items from different categories of fashion. We specialize in image consulting/styling. As a business owner, I am prouder of how I am able to create relationships through social media. I never want my followers or customers to feel disconnected. I think it’s hella dope when they are excited to get fly or see me in person and have an item on.
What sets Steffon Johnson and ‘BY STEFFON’ apart from others is the relationships we create, the pieces that we provide, and the experience. Our Pop-up Shop table stay lit!
