Today we’d like to introduce you to Javier Garza.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Javier. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In a household with four mouths to feed clothes were the least of my parents worries. You wore what you have and be grateful you have clothes on your back. As a shy person that was difficult because clothing is a way I like to express myself. You take that away and what are you left with? Just the shy-skinny kid. I remember getting made fun of because of the things I wore or that I was so skinny to the point where I wouldn’t want to go out without a hoodie. As I started being about to make my own money I’d buy a few pieces here and there, but I still wouldn’t wear much because I was afraid of what others might think. It wasn’t until I put on my first pair of boots and thought woah, I may be able to make a look with this. A simple black tee for an all black fit and a look in the mirror made me realize if I love what I wear when I step outside my door why should I care about what anyone thinks.
That when I cleaned my closet with anything I could get rid of and replaced it with clothing pieces that would make me feel good about myself. I started to be comfortable not only with others but myself. After a while I ran into an old friend eve who is the creator of evezahid.com told me that he liked my look and that he wanted to me model for his brand. Even though I was beginning to be more comfortable with myself being the shy person I am I kinda let it go over my head. I never was one for pictures and was the furthest thing away from a model. More time passes and one of my closest friend’s DVD suggested that we should try and take some pictures just for fun and see what happens. When I got back home and took a look I was pretty shocked. I had never seen myself from that view with such quality. That was my first shoot on my Instagram titled “nights you can’t take back”. Since then, I realized I wanted to start taking pictures with meaning to them. I wanted to show my outfits with an aesthetic look so that when people take a look at a picture of me, they aren’t focused on me. I took a few here and there when I ran into eve again.
This time he mentioned my Instagram how he liked the look and that we need to colab. That’s when evexjavi came into effect. DVD and I took the “stargate” tee pictures for evezahid.com and when I dropped the pictures people showed so much love to them. That made me wanna keep going out and taking the most pleasing photo I could. Eventually more and more people recognized and kept telling me how aesthetically pleasing my page was. From then I just wanted to make every post better than the last. As I started to grow a little more of course eve and I had to do another shoot for the “skins” tee. Taking a look at his website was breathtaking seeing myself on there in his design. It motivated me to want to model for big brands someday. A big jaw dropper for me was when the very talented eve artist evehami made a new piece. I look down at a text with a picture of his artwork and see the picture DVD took of me for eve. He had drawn the exact picture with me wearing the eve hoodie in his artwork with the words evexjavi over it. When I saw that I got so determined for something to happen. I told myself I wouldn’t stop creating and that the eve family and I have to go up. From the beginning to right now I never lost sight of the fact that the pictures aren’t about me, it’s about the art. I love creating “a look” and I always will. I want the world to see our work and I won’t stop until they do.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for creating content. You always have to be wondering what the next outfit, look, or scenery is going to be. In the beginning the hate would get to me, but I love what I put out so why should I let it anymore? The only real struggle right now is not always having access to a photographer to get ideas in my head out there.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I create Instagram content and model for evezahid.com. My goal is to make aesthetically pleasing photos for anyone with an artistic view can understand.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe you make your own luck, it’s what you make of it. You can’t sit around waiting to be struck by good luck or wishing the bad won’t come.
