Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanah Mirza-Hernandez.
Hanah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
With a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the University of Houston, I began my career in the arts at the age of 18 with a position at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. After graduation, I moved from Houston to the small border town of Carrizo Springs in West Texas. There I worked with the Carrizo Springs Independent School District as Lead Grand Coordinator for the elementary school, merging the gap between the school district and families of student through after school and community outreach programs, all made possible through grants, community sponsors, and corporate sponsors. Sparking my love for community events and programs.
Upon returning to Houston in 2014, I went back to my roots in the arts and was hired by Simpson Galleries as an Auction Administrator. Working under Ray Simpson Jr., my time there enhanced my knowledge of the art business, event planning, and business strategy. Concluding the time with Simpsons as the Lead Auction Coordinator, I made a full circle returning to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in the end of 2018 as the Membership Programs and Benefits Senior Coordinator. In the beginning of 2019, I was appointed the Event Committee Chair for Latin Restaurant Weeks, an initiative aimed at shedding light on Latin-owned restaurants and businesses through a two-week dining showcase and events. This year they will be virtual events!
A born and raised Houstonian, and proud of my Latin and Arab heritage, I have always believed myself to be a person of the people. I love everyone, I get along with everyone, I am the life of the party. Which brings me to my current career path! At the end of 2019, one of my best friends invited me to a party he was attending with his work team. I met his team, met his bosses, and ultimately fell in love with their entire vibe. What I didn’t know that night is that a few weeks later, I’d be joining the Nicole Freer Group, one of Top Ten real estate teams in the Houston Metropolitan Area, as a member of their builder relations team.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has it been a smooth road? Hah! There are always obstacles, and they come in all different shapes and sizes. Sometimes you make good decisions, follow the rules, turn in the paperwork when you are supposed to, and things out of your power (like getting final approvals from someone who has been on vacation for three weeks) happen, and then you’re chasing your tail to pull off a project you were originally ahead of schedule on. Sometimes, you make what you think was a rash or wrong decision, and it turns out to work in your favor in the weirdest ways. My advice, bottom line, everyone’s definition of “smooth” varies, and it’s slightly overrated. Find a path that makes your heart race at times, either with worry or joy. If it doesn’t push you, is it even really worth it?
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
What I do! That is the best question ever. As a member of the Builder Relations Team (which we call BRT), I do many, many things. Ultimately, my main goal is to bridge any gaps between new home construction builders and our team of 12 full-time agents. I do this through various outlets, phone calls, in person visits to model homes across Houston, videos, lunches, Happy Hours and so much more. I’m also equipped with a powerhouse marketing/creative team, access to various platforms, and a socially recognizable brand that Nicole and Doug Freer have built. My goal is to bring each representative from a new home builder, their community, and their product in front of our team. We help eliminate obstacles along the way. Have a buyer in a lease or they need to sell their home first? The Nicole Freer Group can help!
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Since we are so heavily based on social interaction, using certain CRM’s to track visits, phone calls, the status of leads, etc. is a major help. I have a great memory, but not an invincible one! Our team uses HubSpot, which is beyond phenomenal. I also follow a ton of people in the real estate and fitness industries for motivation in my work and my health life.
