Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Johnson-Jones, MD.
Dr. Johnson-Jones, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a board-certified emergency medicine physician since 2011. In 2011, at the age of 34 years old, I had my second child. At this point, I was in the best shape of my life. As I begin to lose weight and put on lean muscle, I realized that my face did not look as youthful as the rest of my body. I remember speaking with one of my closest friends regarding my concerns and she recommended that I see an expert regarding facial rejuvenation. I went to my dermatologist who suggested a minimal amount of filler. I remember leaving her office feeling five years younger with renewed confidence. This personal experience leads me to my current career path in aesthetic medicine.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I developed an interest in aesthetics, I began to study on my own. Emergency medicine made it very easy for me to excel in this area. I had a very strong knowledge of facial anatomy, injections, nerve blocks, and the administration of medications. There is not a specific residency in the aesthetic field. It is essentially a self-directed career. I began taking classes and training with world-renowned injectors. My friends, family members, and trusted colleagues were among my first clients. When I felt I was good enough, I started a concierge aesthetic business. Over a few years, I accumulated hundreds of patients which lead to the establishment of Niaaestheticsmd.
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I am a medical doctor that specializes in Botox for cosmetic procedures, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), migraines, and excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis). I also do facial fillers for optimal facial rejuvenation. I do fillers in the temples, cheeks, tear troughs, jawline, chin, and lips. We also incorporate fillers and botox into special medical grade facials. We do microneedling of the skin which drastically improves scarring and skin texture. It also helps to induce new collagen formation. Hair restoration and sexual dysfunction procedures with no downtime are also quite popular in my practice.
I would say that I don’t like anyone to leave my office looking overdone. The goal is to have beautiful skin with a rejuvenated natural appearance!
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Pray and allow yourself to focus on one small goal at time! Once you reach your small goal, set another and crush it! This is how Rome was made, slowly, certainly not in one day!
