Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Moore.
Brooklyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Fitness has always been a big part of my life since I was a child since I played basketball all my life. I took my passion with playing basketball all the way into college were I played D1 women’s basketball at Houston Baptist University. Starting out my freshman year, I was having a great time, but throughout the years, my love for basketball started to fade away, as I felt like I was only playing for others and not myself because that was what was expected of me. So coming into my junior year, I decided to quit and pursue my new passion which was modeling. I was told all my life that I should model but, I always fell back on sports because it was where. Was comfortable. When I started modeling, I knew that was what I really wanted to do, and I was good at it. Now when I graduated, I wasn’t at the point where I could support myself full time with modeling, so I went the corporate route and got a good administration assistant job at an oil and gas company here in Houston. Now don’t get me wrong the pay was very nice, but I hated it.
After three months, I knew the corporate life was not for me at all. Now, what do I do? Since I followed one passion and it worked out (modeling) I might as well try my other passion out, which is fitness. One day my boyfriend and I decide to go workout together at All En Sports faculty, as my boyfriend was friends with the owner Justin Allen. Once I stepped in the gym, I fell in love with the environment and vibe of the gym. Before coming to the gym, I tried becoming a personal trainer at 24 Hour fitness and Lifetime fitness, but there were a lot of loop holes that I didn’t want to go through. So I had the idea to hit up Justin Allen (the owner of the gym) and see if there were any openings to being a trainer at All EN. And. That’s where it took off, I started getting more and more clients and I was doing pretty well, then COVID happened. Everyone moved to the park where we continued to train and it was hot but a lot of fun (lol). Since then, I’ve just been building my modeling and fitness brand. I still have a lot to learn and build, but is far I can’t complain, and I’m truly blessed.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Besides dealing with COVID, being a personal trainer hasn’t been terribly difficult. But with modeling, it hasn’t been the easiest. My biggest struggle with modeling has been my size. Now to the outside world, I’m a pretty average sized girl, but in the modeling industry there used to not be a market for my size. In the industry, you basically either have to be a size 2 or a size 10, to put it in the easiest terms, I’m neither of those as I’m right in the middle at a size 6ish.
I had built up my portfolio and decided to go Miami with my mom in the hopes of being sign to an agency. I was super excited to go to each one but was shot down every single time as my body proportions wasn’t right and my portfolio wasn’t good enough. As a 21 years old at the time, that really killed my spirits, but I didn’t quit. I kept shooting and getting more experience from local photographers, and that’s where I was noticed by my mother agent Dollhouse Management which is based in Miami. I was shocked and was freaking out because I had been following the agency for a minute. I was so excited when they reached out and said they wanted to sign me and work with me. I truly love Dollhouse as they don’t believe in the size requirements in standard modeling and really push to change those norms, which I am 100% here for. Since then, I have gotten a lot more work and more export, where brands and people take me more seriously.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Since modeling is pretty self-explanatory, I’ll talk more about my brand Bodied By Brooklyn.
Bodied By Brooklyn is my personal fitness brand overall, I strive to help build the confidence of other women through the use of fitness. I feel as though in our generation, there is a lot of pressure on women to look certain, and I hate it. I truly got that mindset of being a model in an industry that wasn’t meant for me. For a while, I tried to change my body and lose a lot of weight in the hope of being smaller for modeling, and it was healthy at all. Especially since I was changing the way, I looked for someone else not me. I hear girls say all the time “I want to look like this… I want this type of body..” In reality, that isn’t possible all the time, and I just want women to realize that the body they’re born in is the body that is for them. I strive to help women love the body that they are in and truly use fitness to help them overall just feel better on the inside and out.
Some goals I am trying to achieve with Boded By Brooklyn is finished my website and move to more online fitness trainer and online fitness plans. I have also recently gotten a few fitness and modeling related affiliate programs with different company, some being Buffbunny (support code “Moorebrooklyn”) and Ladder sports supplements (discount code (BROOKLYN10)
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always on the move as a kid, “a busy body” as mom and dad like to put it. I was the youngest out of two as I have an older sister. We were both pretty good kids, we basically followed the rules, didn’t get in trouble and played basketball. Growing up, you can definitely say that I loved in a sports home, my dad loves basketball, my mom was athletic growing up, and my sister and I were addicted to sports.
