Has it been a smooth road?
Being an African American male teacher, I noticed there are a lot of issues in the education community, particularly for my students from low-income families. One thing I noticed is that there was a lack of black men in education administration. I obtained my Master’s degree and became an Assistant Principal at an Alternative School, I have always had a passion for learning about the school to prison pipeline. I recognize how much a plague it is to our society. I believe that this is because of the failure we have in education today. Throughout my career, I noticed that there was corruption that is holding back the progression of African American students.
Therefore I wrote My book “I Used To Hate School: 5 Proven Principles for Success in Education” which is based on my core beliefs that there is genius in every student, joy in every subject, and greatness in every staff. I furthermore believe that every student can love school, love someone at school, or love something about school and learn to love learning.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The education industry is facing a lot of struggles right now because of the pandemic. There will definitely be major shifts within the next five years due to what we are experiencing now.
