Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Natalie.
Erika, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I love to dip my soul into so many different mediums; you will see the chaotic energy that I bring to the table by continuing to read about all that I do! I am a channeling spiritualist, tarot reader, and reiki master. I started my spiritual journey at the age of 5 when I got my first depersonalization, derealization and dissociation episode; yes, my soul detached from my body and I have perceived the world in a much different way since then. Since I was a little girl I’ve always believed in a higher source, I’ve always felt connected to this higher source, and I have always questioned reality, consciousness and existence. I’ve recently started my official spiritual journey about 2 years ago; these past 2 years have been so transformative and it’s allowed me to understand the beauty and power of self-love, unconditional love, and gratitude. I am also a photographer/videographer. I started my camera journey at the age of 14. I would say I got that hobby from my dad. Growing up, my dad would always record home videos and traveling videos on his VHS camera. He would also snap pictures as much as he could; this allowed me to be able to go back to these moments and visualize/feel the memories all over again. I am so grateful that my father was able to do that for our family because I tend to forget a lot of things and I am most definitely a visual-type-of-gal. I absolutely am thankful for the visions that I have, and my ability to bring them to life. I just want the souls to see the way that I view the world. Expression comes in many forms, and I love to express myself through words/writing, photos, videos, and modeling. Oh yeah, I also do some independent modeling every now and then! My life purpose is to guide others to their own life mission; to be authentically themselves, as this allows the universe to naturally attract what is necessary and beneficial to their growth and success. I aspire to be one of the most impactful humanitarians in history.
Has it been a smooth road?
Oh man, it has definitely not been a smooth road. If it were, I would not be human. I would say my main struggles were trying to figure out how I’m going to incorporate all of the things that I’m passionate about into ONE mode of expression. I knew I loved to express myself, in all forms. Whether that’d be modeling, public speaking, interviewing, photography, videography and editing. It took about one full year to finally set a plan for myself. I came up with the idea of Frowned Smile in 2019. It stayed an “idea” for some months. I knew that if I jumped into it without having it all planned out, it wouldn’t work. That alone taught me patience, and with that patience, over the months, I slowly started figuring out how I would go about my magazine. I was so desperate and impatient, I tend to naturally be that way. It still is a struggle at times, but I knew that I had to wait in order to see it come to fruition in the way that I wanted.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Frowned Smile story. Tell us more about the business.
Frowned Smile is a digital magazine, which will eventually become a physical magazine in 2021. Overall, Frowned Smile is a safe space for artists of all kinds to share messages that will expand consciousness through words and art. The goal with this digital magazine is to bring awareness to potential life changing thoughts, ideas and morals all through expression in the form of photography, modeling, makeup, art, writing, and all things considered art (you decide what art is or isn’t; it is your world).
Frowned Smile has recently expanded as a non-profit organization for the Houston community (Frowned Smile Charity). The goal for this charity is to heal, transform and aid those who are less fortunate in the Houston area. Whether that is with fundraising or bringing awareness to every-day issues; we are in position to do for others. I would say I am an advocate who strives to bring awareness through art, fashion, and spirituality.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Within the next 5-10 years, I hope that my industry is more aware of the reality of life. I hope that people are in this industry for the right reasons; that being, to bring awareness to real life issues and doing what they can in order to expand people’s minds in order for them to get a better understanding of not only themselves, but of the world. I feel like knowing yourself, and standing in your truth allows us to be ourselves authentically. Everyone’s soul mission is to be themselves to the fullest. Doing what resonates with you puts you in a space where you are being aligned with the natural vibrations of who you really are; and this will allow the universe to naturally attract not only what you want, but most importantly, what you NEED in order to be successful in this lifetime.
