Hidden Gems: Meet Natalie Christopher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Christopher.

Hi Natalie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hey everyone! I am Natalie, a Licensed Cosmetologist. I have been in the Beauty Industry (licensed) for ten yrs. However, I started doing hair in middle school. I am from a small town Crockett, Tx. Upon graduating high school, I started beauty school at Trinity Valley Community College. I was there for a year, then I moved to Houston, Tx. I completed beauty school at Franklin Beauty School and received my license in 2011. When I first moved to Houston, knowing what I wanted to do, I had absolutely no clients. I stepped out on faith and knew what I wanted to achieve I just had to put myself out there and do the work that was required. While in school I had other jobs so I continued to meet new people and gain clientele by putting it out there that I was a hairstylist. I met clients in school that also followed me after I completed school. I would post my work on different social media platforms so that I could get potential clients (Facebook, myspace, craigslist, IG was not around then, etc.)

I would attend continuing education classes, coaching classes, etc. so that I could learn more about the business. We have to build and learn during the growing process and that’s what makes your business stand out! You have to start from somewhere. Now I have gained many many clients, launched my own products, and I often teach others what I know (online classes, etc.) so that they can also achieve things in the beauty business that they can gain knowledge and apply it towards their business. I am always looking to doing other things in the industry so that I can one day retire, not anytime soon but one day. If you’re ever in the Houston area come check me out!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not at all a smooth road. My first year in beauty school I got pregnant with my first child. I started college in 2006 and he was born in 2007. So I stopped and went back. Then I had my daughter in 2010. I also stopped and went back for a final time. I was a single mom after I had her. I completed school and received my license in 2011. So it normally takes nine months to finish this class, it took me five years. But I got it done.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hair by Natalie Michelle?
I am a Licensed Hair Stylist. I have been in the industry for over 10yrs. I specialize in Hair Extensions, Sew-In Installs, Bob Styles, etc. I also have a product line and I offer online classes for stylist and potential stylist.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory which is odd was always doing hair at school (in classrooms), at home on the porch, on the school bus to high school games, etc. This was something that I was known for always doing what I loved.
