Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Richards.
Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Goddess K’s Indulgence wasn’t a business at first. It was just an idea running around in my head. I purchased a line of face and body care products and it did not meet my expectations, so I started thinking, “What can I use for my face and my body?” I was tired of the store-bought products and wasting money on things that did not work. I started playing with the ingredients I had in my home and the idea hit me. Once I was satisfied with the consistency and the results I started posting to Instagram. I had no intention of starting a business, but when someone wanted to try it and asked “How Much?” That is when I said to myself, “I can make a business out of this” besides, I had just quit my job and I needed an income.
I chose the name Goddess K from a photoshoot I did in July 2019. It helped me to become more aware of my beauty, more aware of who I am, and more aware of my self-worth. Self-love and self-care are the focus of my business because before the shoot, and still, from time to time today, I forget to love and pour into myself. I constantly remind myself that I am solely responsible for Kimberly. The way I take care of myself teaches people how to treat me and if I am not loving and caring for myself to the highest of my ability, then how would anyone else know how to love or treat me? The Indulgence comes from the relaxation, calmness, and peace of mind I get from my aura cleansing oatmeal bath accompanied by my Goddess Scrub. It will leave your skin silky smooth and uplift your spirit as it gives a boost to your energy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road (lol). For the idea and bringing my products to life, yes, that part was easy. Once the recipe was finalized, I was able to put a spin on it for different scents. I only use organic and natural ingredients now, but in the beginning, before becoming a business I was all over the place with the oils. It was difficult getting the materials. I had no job and my funds were low. I mean, There was me with this big idea in my head with no way to bring it into existence (haha). I was STUCK. Instead of focusing on materials, my website became the goal. It was the only thing I focused on because it was free (lol). There were many sleepless nights getting the website together. It took about two months before the initial reveal and publishing. After that, I continued to change and add things to make it more appealing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Before Goddess K’s Indulgence, I worked at CVS as a Pharmacy Technician. Before that, I have over eight years of experience in the medical field as a CNA/HHA. I enjoyed taking care of my patients’ whether they were in respite care or just needed a companion for a short period of time. It’s the little things that matter to me. I enjoyed being able to travel to different places across New York. The scenery was amazing, The people had different mannerisms than that of those I was used to. It’s an experience I will never forget. I am very reserved and I take my work seriously. I have a big heart so, it hurt me to see how some of my patients were being treated within the nursing home or at home by their families. I took on the role as a caregiver because I wanted to be a breath of fresh air for someone. It thought me a lot about myself. I learned and embraced that I had a higher level of love and care for others, I learned that I was very compassionate, patient, and determined to make people happy.
I am most happy with the fact that I took my gifts and talents to another level. that I can still make people happy, not just externally but also within. I am grateful that I can enhance the lives of both men and women mentally, physically, and spiritually. This is something that I have been doing for over eight years of my life and never realized how many lives I may have changed just by being a helping hand. Now I am going further with my gifts. I can reach people all over the world. What sets me apart from others is my will and determination for love of self and wanting others to step into themselves. I want you to know and believe that “YOU ARE WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE”. Your words have power. Speak life into yourself, speak love into your life. Believe that what you speak will come to fruition and watch it unfold in front of your eyes. I know it is so much easier said than done, but when you put your mind, thoughts, and words together along with positive energy, You will get the results you are looking for. Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Ooh, Youtube is a great source of meditation videos for me. I’d be lying if I said I watched these videos every day (lol). But I don’t. I get bored easily and I do not like to hear the same voices for too long, so, no. I do not listen to podcasts. Though, I Love listening to music. Music keeps me up and going. Music is exciting, every song is different, It’s hard to get bored with music for me. My favorite genre is Afrobeats at the moment. The second is Calm radio. They have amazing meditation sounds. It helps me to rebalance my mind and refocus on the task at hand. When working on orders I listen to Calm radio while reciting affirmations of Love, Peace, Happiness, and Increase. I get excited every time I get to work on an order because it brings me all of those things, plus I get to make someone spend time loving and caring for themselves. Meditation and good energy are a big part of the process of Goddess K’s Indulgence. I only want great things to come about for you.
