Today we’d like to introduce you to Yusselly Garcia.
Hi Yusselly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started when I joined the world of modeling and pageants at age 14 when I became interested in the beauty industry. I remember when I started high school, I told my parents I wanted to be a cosmetologist, my dad told me, “I knew you were going to work in the beauty industry because you would steal your mom’s lipsticks as a toddler.” While I was in high school, I would do my friend’s hair and makeup in class just for fun or on the weekends when they had a quinceanera. I graduated high school in 2016 and decided to go into cosmetology in 2017, and enrolled at San Jacinto College where I graduated in 2018. In the meantime, I continued modeling and decided to volunteer to help out for hair and makeup for fashion shows and photoshoots. Being backstage as both a model and stylist/ makeup artist really helped me learn a few tips and tricks and gain more experience. In 2019, I started my part-time job as a hairstylist in JCPenney while I continued working on my other passion of doing makeup. Since then, my business has slowly picked in the beauty industry as I build my clientele working in the Brazoria County and Houston area. I definitely couldn’t have done it without the support of my parents, husband, my cosmetology instructors, and last but not least my team. Without out them I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every day I face new challenges with every client I get, whether I’m doing hair or makeup. It definitely hasn’t been easy trying to grow and build my clientele as a hairstylist and makeup artist, especially because of my young age people question me and think I don’t have enough experience. Not to mention, last year was very a difficult year for everyone. All industries were really affected by covid with the shutdown and the new protocols and regulations. I’ve learned so much in the past few years, I know I can overcome any obstacle that comes in my way. All I need is faith, a positive mind, and good vibes.
As you know, we’re big fans of Aztec Beauty. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The name “Aztec Beauty” represents all aspects of me. It represents my culture, my heritage, and of course my passion, the industry I work in. I offer hair and makeup services from casual, to bridal, to fantasy hair and makeup. I specialize in bridal, quinceanera, and editorial hair and makeup. What sets me apart is my passion, creativity, and diversity of makeup looks. I love when clients tell me, “this is what I’m wearing, you’re the pro, do what you think looks best, I trust you.” It feels amazing knowing that they can trust me & my knowledge. My passion is to create a better version of you, not just to make you look good but to also feel good.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The key factor to my success is my passion, giving it my all to master any look to be a better stylist and makeup artist. Continuing education to advance and modernize my skills. Developing relationships with my clients, getting to know them, and gaining their trust to know they are in good hands. It’s not about working for them but with them to make their vision come true. I want to be recognized for always giving it my all, doing my best, and never giving up. I want to be an inspiration for someone, be a role model. To be able to make an impact even if it’s small, but to leave my mark on the world.
