Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Bob Basu of Basu Aesthetics + Plastic Surgery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Bob Basu.

Hi Dr. Basu, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am originally from the Northeast but fell in love with the Houston area while completing my plastic surgery fellowship at the prestigious Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. I enjoy the big-city cultural diversity that Houston provides, mixed with a small-town community feel. The people here are always warm, friendly, and hospitable. While attending Princeton, I originally considered pursuing cardiovascular surgery but discovered my passion for plastic surgery during my general surgery residency at George Washington University Medical Center when one of my mentors noticed that I was very meticulous about surgical closures to make sure the incisions looked great. It was then that my future in aesthetic medicine and surgery was foretold.

I’ve always loved creative pursuits, especially those that involve strategizing, planning, curating and carrying out a vision. This is a big part of what drew me to plastic surgery.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I love the challenges that this line of work provides. I appreciate that in this specialty, you not only have to complete an anatomically and functionally pristine procedure but that you must also ensure that your results look fantastic for years down the line. My goal is to achieve exceptional aesthetic results in every patient and this requires extreme vision, skill and focus.

Aside from the risks, complications and unforeseen circumstances inpatient care, I have also encountered the countless administrative obstacles that come with opening a medical practice. After receiving my MBA, I spent several arduous years looking for the ideal location for my outpatient surgical center and was fortunate to finally find it in Cypress’ Towne Lake Boardwalk area. With its panoramic waterfront views on a peninsula – needless to say, it was worth the wait. Patients immediately get a sense of tranquility and luxury from the moment they arrive.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Basu Aesthetics + Plastic Surgery?
Safety is always our number one priority. My on-site Beleza Surgery Center is a state-licensed ambulatory surgery center that far exceeds the requirements of most accredited cosmetic surgery facilities. While the space is visually remarkable, it’s the exceptional quality of care that my patients receive which sets Basu Aesthetics + Plastic Surgery apart. Patients can undergo their procedures in an outpatient setting with peace of mind that meets the highest hospital-grade safety and quality standards and protocols. I also go above and beyond when it comes to advanced pain management techniques and do whatever it takes to optimize patient comfort and recovery.

Across my career, I have performed over 16,000 cosmetic procedures, ranging from aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring, mommy makeovers, facial rejuvenation, and more. When not in the OR, I serve as the Board Vice President and Treasurer of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. I also enjoy public speaking engagements across the country and have recently published a seminal textbook on contemporary aesthetic breast surgical techniques. Beyond work, I enjoy exercising, traveling, entertaining, and or spending time at home with my wife and two sons. I am proud to have been voted a Houston Top Doc / Best Plastic Surgeon for the past 13 years.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The greatest lesson I’ve learned in my career, besides the obvious patience and determination, is in trust and teamwork. Surgery is a collaborative process from pre-op to post-op and beyond. I enjoy being an advocate for my patients and working closely with them through their journey. I spend time educating them and answering their questions about their options before every procedure – making sure they feel comfortable and empowered in their personal health choices.

I also rely heavily on my dedicated team of nurses and board-certified anesthesiologists. These are exceptionally qualified medical professionals who work closely with me behind the scenes to help ensure our patient’s satisfaction and safety. Lastly, I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my beautiful family. It is an honor to improve people’s appearance and self-confidence, changing the world – one patient at a time.
