Tyisha, it’s been too long since we last connected. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with our community again. Some readers might have missed our prior conversations, so maybe you can kick things off for us with a quick intro?
I am a proud mother, educator, author, speaker, life and writing coach, and a small business owner. I am the owner of Ty Jenkins Inspires, LLC where I aim to inspire others through my story of overcoming several different obstacles by deciding to grow through what I have gone through.
What inspires you to do the work you do?
I am inspired by seeing people gain a new perspective on certain aspects of life, whether it be hurt, loss, sudden change, or trauma. I am also inspired by helping people truly show up for themselves, learn to show themselves compassion, and truly honor and value the journey they are on. I am inspired by the young girl in me that decided to be bold and step out on faith and trust God with every detail of her life and I want to help others do the same.
Who are the people you want to help?
I want to help individuals who have suffered loss, single mothers, young women, and our youth. I want to also help anyone who aspires to be a writer and they struggle with just getting ideas on paper; I want to help writers operate in their gifts. I have a heart to help, so I would love to help anyone who feels my story and experiences would help them.
What has changed about you the most on this journey with your business?
I am the learner all over again, so my perspective on learning new things in a new arena has certainly changed, because I am used to being the teacher. Having a business is such a new space for me, I am soaking everything up like a sponge and loving it. I have become aware that there is so much to learn and while running a business is definitely intimidating at times, I really enjoy expanding my knowledge base and challenging myself.
What mistakes have you made this far?
I think the mistakes I have made are not asking certain questions and maybe overthinking situations. I think it is so important to ask questions to someone you know that is already doing what you are doing, as a matter of fact, ask more than one person if possible. You cannot be afraid to seek answers or solutions when you run into something in your business, even if it is as simple as figuring out your mailing system if you have products. I have also been in situations where I have allowed myself to overthink and allow the imposter syndrome to cause me to second guess certain decisions and my abilities.
What can we look forward to with Ty Jenkins Inspires?
I just hosted my first BeYOUtiful Young Queens’ Camp that was designed to empower and equip girls ages 11-18 to show up fully as themselves and embrace the young queens they are. The camp was a huge success and the girls walked away with tools and strategies in goal setting, decision making, controlling their controllables, affirming themselves, and much more. Ty Jenkins Inspires will be doing more events like this through speaking and workshops centered around empowering our youth. I am also working with high school seniors and their families helping them prepare their college application and scholarship essays with my Writing to Win coaching sessions. I will continue to grow my brand, do more speaking, give back to the community, and make an impact in my life coaching and writing coaching.
What are your biggest wins thus far?
I believe my biggest wins thus far are staying the course, celebrating the small victories, and just taking bold steps. The BeYOUtiful Young Queens’ Camp came to me in June and I created, designed, planned, organized, developed content, marketed, handled registration, and presented and taught the young girls within a month’s time. I had a small, but amazing team help me the two days of the event, but handling everything because I don’t have a business team yet, emphasis on yet, was very, very tough, but certainly rewarding. Each time I push through in boldness and remember to celebrate, I definitely count that as a win.
