Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlissa LeBlanc.
Hi Carlissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began dabbing in content creation during my senior year of college. I wanted to use my platform as a way to encourage and inspire women that looked like me by sharing my story and being a light to others.
During college, I struggled with confidence because I was sexually abused at 16. This caused me to hide in my shell and not really feel comfortable talking or expressing myself. After I started attending therapy, my therapist was the one that encouraged me to start writing and sharing my story with others. That’s when I figured out my purpose was to encourage and inspire. Growing up as a PK, I was always taught that the things you go through are never FOR YOU but for someone else, and I knew God was super intentional about choosing me as his vessel.
Fast Forward to my first year post graduate, people would always ask me about where I got my clothes, or shoes, or makeup, and I loved it. I then began using my social media presence to share those things but also as a place to share my story and encourage my tribe.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, there has definitely been some times in this journey as a content creator where you fall into the trap of “imposter syndrome.” It’s so easy to fall into that trap because social media makes it super easy to hid the things you dont want to discuss. However, I found that by me being vulnerable and transparent, it has allowed the people that are for me to flock to me and the ones who are not for me to move around. Sometimes you lose followers, and that’s okay. Because God is making a way for those that NEED to be around.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently am pursuing a career in medicine. My ultimate dream is to become an anesthesiologist. I think that’s what makes Carli Dorlynn different. She’s a bomb content creator but she’s also a MD to Be. My pre-health career is what I believe has made me an even more interesting woman because I feel like it’s the part of me that keeps me on my toes the most. I currently work in research for one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world and I help develop clinical trials to help save people’s lives and create new medications. It’s the most rewarding job because I love serving people. Growing up, no one in my family obtained their bachelor’s degree. I was the first and I’m most proud of being able to say that. However, it keeps me on my toes because I also want to be the first doctor in my family.
Carli the Content Creator is creative, and outgoing and very unapologetically outspoken. but WhiteCoatCarli, is driven about changing the world and the way minorities view healthcare.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, now more than ever is the perfect time to be creative. We can’t rely on our 9-5s to make us rich. I’ve seen more people come out of this crisis as millionaires just by tapping into their creativity and starting their own businesses. There are so many talented people in this world and as a millennial, there are so many millennial millionaires. There’s enough room at the table for everyone!!!
