Daily Inspiration: Meet Hernan Juarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hernan Juarez.

Hi Hernan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started cutting my own hair back in junior high I was like 12 years old, I did this mostly because my parents could not afford taking me & my siblings to a barbershop. My 2 older brothers were already cutting their own hair at first I didn’t want to learn I thought it was too much work, but once I practiced and practiced the skill I noticed I started to fall in love with it.

Throughout the years, I kept on working on my skill, when I reached high school, my friends and classmates would ask where I was going for my haircuts, they did not believe I was cutting it myself. This is when I started cutting some of my friends on the side. In my senior year of high school that’s when you ask yourself what after? My dad worked construction it was good money but I knew I wouldn’t like it.

That’s when I decided to go to Mystros Barber Academy and pursue barbering this is when I started learning more than just cutting hair I started to learn sanitation and business I was working at HEB while going to school I knew everything would pay off one day., 6 months later (1500 hours) I finished barber school I started working at Galindo’s Barbershop (Magnolia) later that month this was the perfect barbershop for me it was the only barbershop in the area that was modern, I still wanted to keep on learning so I started to travel to other states to learn from celebrity barbers this really opened my mind to a bigger scale in barbering and learn from the best around the worlds. I’ve been at Galindo’s for 3 years and I’ve built a solid clientele from having celebrities as my clients. I love serving the community around me and connect with people and make someone’s day better.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t easy when I was in high school I was broke just like any other high school kid so having dreams of doing better was not impossible but I definitely set limitations on myself because of that. Another one was when people look down on you because of the career path you choose thinking it’s not a good choice based on their opinions.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a barber, I specialize in clipper and shear work (fades, textured work, creative cuts) what sets me apart is I continue to learn new styles and different techniques, try out new tools to better the quality of my haircuts through online academy’s and out of state 1 on 1 trainings.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would be coming home from school to play video games and cutting my own hair in the restroom and jamming out to new music, it was peaceful for me.
