Check Out Ade Dina’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ade Dina.

Hi Ade, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to make movies since I was nine years old. I would go to the movies so much in my formative years I probably funded AMC at a time. I mean, there was a literal day I walked miles to watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So when it came time to go to college, I already knew what my major would be. Somehow I stumbled across the University of North Texas and used the five years I was a student to develop into the filmmaker I am today. With now five years of making videos, I think I’ve done a pretty good job.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, it has not been smooth. My main struggles have always been imposter syndrome and looking too far into the future. I know where I want to be (making Hollywood features) and tussle with living with what I am creating now because it doesn’t emulate the art I watched on huge screens. This has caused extended creator’s block in times I needed to take the next step but I’m slowly but surely getting better at coping with my own thoughts. Is it because I am growing mentally or growing within my field? I don’t quite know.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a film director, writer, cinematographer and editor. My main focus has been making short films through multiple genres. However, through the second half of the year, I have dove into documentary filmmaking, and I kind of like it. What I think sets me apart from others is my background in movies. I pull almost entirely from film practices and influences so my techniques feel more suited for the big screen than just quick, digestible content.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am really into sports. I used to have a sports podcast (currently working on launching another one) but people still get surprised with how passionate I am about various regulated games. I love soccer, basketball, and football and still find a way to keep up with baseball and combat sports.
