Conversations with Jailin Chaires

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jailin Chaires.

Hi Jailin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first got interested in doing nails at a very young age, as a kid, I always loved painting my nails so I think the passion for art has always been in me. My parents are both barbers/owners of Guanajuato Barber Shop, so I grew up looking up to them and how they managed themselves in this beauty industry. I knew I didn’t want to be a barber so I branched out and asked my mom for a do it yourself acrylic kit from my local Walgreens and that’s when my journey started. I’m self-taught so I went through a lot of trial and error. Thankfully some of my high school friends would let me practice on them. Shortly after I graduated high school in 2016 is when I started taking clients. While all of this was happening, I was also attending college for supply chain management and at the same time I was starting to build a solid clientele. So I eventually quit college to fully dedicate myself to building my nail business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think the hard part for me was going to college full time and being a full time nail tech. Sometimes I had no time to socialize or even hang out with family. Thankfully I always had my family’s support but obviously, it wasn’t easy building a clientele because people need to trust your work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud of my nail art evolution because when I first started I was scared to draw detailed art. There’s always a new nail art trend so I have to be on top of all of them and learn as I go. Being a nail tech requires patience, dedication and consistency.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something most people don’t know about me is that I’m a very shy person. I think that working in the beauty industry has taught me how to have communication and people skills.
