Community Highlights: Meet Owen Dixon of Year of the Gentlemen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Owen Dixon.

Hi Owen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’m a father of four amazing kids and they have always been my first responsibility. I was in the process of transitioning from Children & Youth Pastor to partnering with BNB Consulting under mentor Ramone Harper to provide youth consultation services throughout the country; helping churches grow their children, youth, & young adult ministries. Shortly thereafter, something begins to pull on me to start doing more for our young men. I was hurt infernally seeing them dropping out of school, lack of male mentorship, in gangs, and just in and out of trouble. With nearly two decades of experience and leadership, I birthed Ride The Wave Consulting in 2014 which gave way to the Year of the Gentleman Mentoring Program in 2018 a 501-C3. Our signature product is the Year of the Gentleman workbook, parent guide that follows and 10 interactive video modules. This birthed the launched YOG clothing line that focuses on canceling the culture of unsuccessful young men.

Our goal is to promote brotherhood, leadership, accountability, money management, integrity and self-esteem amongst teen boys by empowering them with spiritual and practical principles for success.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been a couple of challenges along the way, but nothing a little prayer can’t fix. Just to name a few securing funding and finding dedicated mentors. The pandemic has been hard for everyone but it’s presented challenges with getting into schools. In life, we know when obstacles and challenges come we must slow down but in reality, I learned how to adjust, keep pushing with prayer, and build a strong team. I found that whether it’s just a few of us, all things will work out.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The YOG program and Workbook help provide direction for every young man’s journey to manhood. We believe the workbook is used with transparency and honesty, it opens the door for thoughts and discussions that will set your young men on the path to success, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and financially. Our mentoring program is a 501-C3

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness for me is being able to have a strong positive impact on every young man’s life. When I see a young man excel, pose strong leadership, have a good mental state and gain a sense of confidence in himself, it brings me so much joy/happiness because that’s the overall goal for YOG mentorship. Year of the Gentlemen wants to impact the lives of families, not just the mentee because we push in “Building young men to cancel culture”. That is indeed our happiness and we achieve it by breaking the cycle in their lives.
