Today we’d like to introduce you to Yossica Flores.
Hi Yossica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Owner of upcoming business in Photography Called “Eye of Yossicaa”. I was born and raised here in Houston Texas. I’ve been here my whole life but that doesn’t stop my curiosity to explore and experience what this lovely world has to offer. Anything that has to do with nature, woods, or animals count me in! When I was younger I loved to try and bring my imagination to life and test the boundaries of my creativity; from drawing to painting I tried to recreate the beauty I was able to envision from the normal everyday things I’d see. As I got older I would wonder how I could make something last longer or test my creativity even further. I didn’t get my very first phone till I was at the age of 19 and that’s when I discovered the power and beauty of images. I started off by taking pictures of my pets, my family and plants. I told myself I would love to take actual pictures one day with a real camera; however, at that time I wasn’t able to afford it so my phone was my camera. I remember at my aunt’s wedding I hired a photographer but I also went ahead and took a few pictures myself with my phone of course and as I compared my pictures with the actual photographers (not to brag or anything) but the moments I captured spoke to everyone a little better than the paid photographer. After that day, I told myself I should give it a try. Little did I know my dad had a camera for me already as a gift. That’s when everything finally started falling into place and I experimented with different objects, people, places; you name it!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it was easy. I had to build that confidence in myself and my work in order to push myself to be greater. I’d have plans and dreams I want to accomplish and get what’s needed but would never have the confidence to start. Yes, I have the camera but then the hard part was getting clients or models to allow me to take their pictures. I feel like it’s kind of hard sometimes because it’s the part about being taken seriously as a woman. Most of my photography involves guys there’s so many photos of women and I asked myself why not put more male models out there. Especially these male models that are upcoming artists. There’s so many young men right now trying to make a name for themselves with their music but it’s not only about the music it’s also about the image that they bring and show to the world and that’s what I want to capture and show the world the beauty of upcoming artist that show stories within their photos. Going back to being a woman is a little tricky sometimes because the guys don’t just see a photographer they see a pretty face behind the camera. But like I tell them if I’m given the chance I can turn your dreams and visions into reality. Currently, I work from home and help my dad with his business in HVAC called Air Texas Heating and Cooling and it keeps me super busy and only gives me free time on the weekends to work on my photography. I love being able to help my dad as much as I can. I think we can all relate to trying to help our parents and family as much as we can IF we can. He’s been working since the age of 9 and I always tell myself if I can make myself known and gain a lot of clients one day or work with important people to bring in more money I’ll help him retire. Family is everything to me. I love them and want what’s best for them and live an easy life. Which is why I’m trying my best and putting my best foot forward into photography. Of course, money is the universal goal in life but why not do something that you enjoy while also bringing food to the table.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My full time is with Air Texas heating and cooling within our family business. My photography of Eye of Yossicaa, when I can and have the time I’ll do Lash extensions as a side hustle.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The luck of it would be the new people and environment that I get to know and discover and the real differences in culture this day. Which is such an exciting thing for me. Something that I’ve learned along the way is you have to put in the work and be open to opportunities to progress and grow. Some make it look easy but that doesn’t mean it’ll be an easy journey. Photography is fun and full of adventures and stories but it can get a little complicated at times and very tiring. I have to have a lot of patience and trust the process no matter what kind of images are being taken but I always make sure when it comes to my clients that they are comfortable and happy with my work. I’m not picky with pictures. They could purchase a package that only includes five images but if I see more beautiful pictures I’ll send you 20 because I believe you should have these beautiful timeless moments. Besides just doing photography I work with my HVAC in which I instill and carry over the same values. If you ever have a problem with your a/c or need new units installed either residential or commercial we’ve got your back. We love our customers and treat them all as family and never disappoint. Sometimes when I have free time I also do lash extensions or hair which I enjoy. So I guess you can say I don’t limit myself or my abilities.
I always think about how time is going by so fast and I tell myself how I am afraid of wasting life, life is so precious I need to capture every moment to always have a story to remember. There are days when I don’t feel like pushing myself forward. There are days I don’t feel like this is going to happen for me but I’ve always said that the world is bigger than our own pockets. We’re always going to have those moments of giving up but we have to remember we don’t only work for ourselves but work for those who we love. I still have a long way to go but I know I can make this happen and I just wouldn’t be here right now without the love and support from my friends and family and hope I can make everyone proud.
