Daily Inspiration: Meet Amber Wallace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Wallace.

Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Let’s just say I’ve always had a love for hair! I remember braiding my doll’s hair at a young age. I had an older sister who’s also a cosmetologist and I remember when I will go to the salon and how I just love the atmosphere of it all, but most of all I loved the reaction of the clients. When they will look in the mirror and how they felt so beautiful and I remember thinking “that’s how I want to make people feel!” My personal journey started in high school when I got accepted into the cosmetology program early in my sophomore year. I later received my license in my junior year and also went back to volunteer as a student teacher my senior year. After high school I attended college for business and hair became less of a focus. It always seemed as though people didn’t consider hairstylist as a “real profession”, so instead of going straight out of high school into a career of cosmetology, I focused on college I even worked at a beauty supply store for a while to fill that desire I knew I still had for hair! Years went by in 2017 I lost my job and struggled to find a new one which brought me back to my true love of “HAIR”, which turned from love into a true passion. I knew if I was going to take on becoming a full time cosmetologist I had to be taken seriously. I took the business fundamentals I learned in school applied it to a career plan and also figured out what was needed in my city and that was a Natural Hair Care Specialist at the time I myself had been natural for 6yrs I took my experience and have helped and taught many individuals who were just starting their natural hair journey and the rest as been purposeful since!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Unfortunately, entrepreneurship is no walk in the park. It comes with many trials and errors. Obstacles that you will eventually jump over and lessons that will be learned, applied and for that your business will continue to flourish. I felt I struggled the most with the balance between my career and my personal life. I would literally burn myself out because I was so determined to make my dreams become reality. Give myself until I had no more to give. Later learning how unhealthy that was and my career shouldn’t be at the cost of my mental health. Trusting the process of entrepreneurship, staying the course, and embracing all the lessons that came with it. Being patient with myself and the process. Listening to my body and taking mental breaks when necessary!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist who specializes in natural hair care. My business is known as Stylesbymuvaa! I’ve proudly had the opportunity to teach individuals along the way with their natural hair journey and had the pleasure in even starting their journeys as well. I’ve helped individuals grow their hair back from all types of severe cases of hair loss such as alopecia. Recently I’ve been studying wellness and applying that knowledge to the cause of hair loss which can be caused by internal or external reasonings. Which has since birth the start of my second business Muvaa’s Naturals!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The 3 characteristics I feel contributed to my success is my drive, integrity, and patience!
