Today we’d like to introduce you to Gelcys Basulto.
Hi Gelcys, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started on my health journey in high school shortly after my mom was diagnosed with MS. I dove deeper into a more holistic lifestyle during my freshman year in college when I took a nutrition course. I cut out processed foods and would only shop at health food stores like Trader Joe’s. Then later switched all my hygiene, beauty products, and cleaning products to all natural toxic free. I came across several documentaries and a few amazing people like Dr. Sebi and Wim Hoff.
At the age of 36, I started my vegan journey which was a game changer for me. I felt good and my energy level was like a kid again. I had a more clear mind and felt amazing. A couple of times a year I would do a 30-day alkaline diet challenge and that made me feel even better. I’m currently 43, but I feel like I’m 21. I still do everything that I was doing at that age. I know it’s because of the healthy lifestyle that I’ve lived for the last 20 years. Though I don’t live a vegan lifestyle anymore, I still manly eat a whole plant-based diet. I believe in balance and cleansing the body.
I’ve been sharing my knowledge with friends and they have all felt the difference when they make a few adjustments. I am a certified health and wellness coach and a life coach. I want to help those who want to make a change and feel better.
Just before my 41st birthday, God gave me a vision to open up a boutique and get more involved in the community to help educate people on health and wellness and the products that they’re putting on their skin. Everything I sell in my boutique is all organic and non-toxic and made with the highest quality of ingredients. I travel around the country and go to local Farmer’s Markets looking for brands. You cannot sneak an ingredient passed me. I have very strict guidelines. I want the best for my clients and customers. I support small businesses and always looking for organic bath, beauty, and natural products. A journey to wellness will have its very own organic soap line and will launch around the holidays. Also looking to add organic herbs and a clean organic make up brand to the store. September 11 is my birthday and it’s the boutique’s 1 year anniversary so it’s a pretty special year for me. Couldn’t do it without God. I’m truly blessed.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been pretty smooth. Word of mouth is traveling. I just find it so strange that people in Houston have never heard of downtown Rosenberg and this town has been around since the early 1800s. It is the cutest Boutique/antique shopping district.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A Journey To Wellness is a company that offers health and wellness coaching, life coaching, and it’s a boutique that carries some of the most amazing organic brands. I hope to franchise in the future so that other young health and wellness coaches can open up a store like this.
What sets us apart from others is that I don’t just allow any products in my store. I have really strict guidelines unlike other health food stores.
I am mostly proud of all of my clients that have made such progress in their health and wellness journey. They should all be so proud of themselves for taking the steps forward in educating themselves and making the change.
I also have a wellness guide for people who want to start their health and wellness journey but not sure where to begin. It’s a guide mainly for beginners but can still be beneficial to those who have been on their health and wellness journey for quite some time.
How do you define success?
Happiness and living a healthy lifestyle is success for me. Getting up every day and doing what I love and helping people heal is also a success.
