Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Trickey.
Hi Amanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in the late ’80s but raised as a ’90s baby so I attribute my fascination for technology to the time period that I grew up in. The birth of the internet, AOL, cell phones, social media… the way our society has changed from 1990 to 2020 is quite remarkable and I was always eager and open to hop on the next trend in technology that was coming out. That being said, when I went to college from 2007 to 2011, digital marketing wasn’t really a thing yet so there were no degree plans for it. In fact, we were doing studies on how social media would impact the business world in the future, little did we know then how big of an impact it would make.
I graduated with a BS degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism from Texas A&M University. After completing an internship at the Bryan College Station Visitors Bureau, I knew I wanted to get a job in marketing. I ended up getting my first job at the (former) Greater Magnolia Chamber of Commerce in Magnolia, TX as the Director of Marketing and Events. After two wonderful years there I got hired at a local freestanding emergency room where I spent almost 6 years honing in on my copywriting, video editing, graphic design, paid ad, social media, and photography and videography skills. When an opportunity came along to challenge my digital marketing skills further and learn different industries, I took it at a marketing agency. After about 8 months there, I got the opportunity to open up my own business, a dream I had ever since I was a little girl, and formed Modern Marketing & Media.
Since I launched in early July, it has been such a fun ride! I jumped right into expanding my relationships in the community by joining the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce where I serve on several Communication Committees. I formed a relationship with the Lone Star College Tomball Community Library and will be teaching future digital marketing classes for local business owners, the first of which is on October 12th. I also will be working with the Tomball Education Foundation on their Communications Committee. On Wednesdays, I have fun growing my speaking skills with the Tomball Toastmasters Club. Giving back to the community where I am raising my family is important to me so I am blessed that these opportunities to serve have come along from the birth of my business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any journey to success comes with bumps along the way. My journey has not always been smooth but if it were not for those bumps, I would not be who I am or where I am today so I am thankful for all of my past experiences, both good and bad.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I am one lucky girl to have had so many supportive family members, mentors and friends over the years as I have grown in my career. One of my biggest role models is my Mom. She owned and operated her own CPA firm for over 20 years and recently sold it and retired. Her strength, smarts and drive is something that has always been inspiring to me and she instilled a lot of those entrepreneurial characteristics within me growing up. Today I am lucky enough to have her by my side as my Business Advisor and Client Relations Manager.
