Today we’d like to introduce you to Avi Katz and Celina Sandoval.
Avi and Celina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Avi Katz’ coffee journey began in 1997 when he graduated from the Conrad Hilton College at the University of Houston with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He worked for Diedrich Coffee out of college, then returned from California to roast at Houston’s Lola Savannah. He went on to help found Fontana Coffee Roasters.
In 2003 Katz Coffee was founded. The company has since grown to anchor and represent coffee in Texas. Katz Coffee offers wholesale coffee solutions to restaurants, cafes, hotels and grocery retailers. Katz Coffee offers consultation for anyone seeking to develop a business around coffee. Katz Coffee works with many local nonprofit organizations and offers coffee cause partnerships that will donate portions of sales back to specific non- profit groups.
The passion Avi Katz has for helping others, translates through the core of the company mission; to achieve perfection in every cup of coffee while sourcing the highest quality coffees and fostering the foundation of the company’s success, its customers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We started from very small beginnings. It was a 1 man show at first. Roasting small batches, packaging and selling to restaurants. Slowly the company dynamics unfolded. We were able to offer equipment and started learning the best ways to brew and offer our customers those same solutions. Growth always has its challenges. Luckily we have had great members of our team that played crucial roles in accommodating that growth.
Katz Coffee – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We roast coffee. We specialize in offering quality coffee and quality service, with a little bit of-of our own Katz’ Culture. What I can say I am most proud of is our ability to deliver consistency to our customers, take care of their coffee needs, and make coffee a vehicle of success for them. I would say our level of service in equipment and customer care sets us apart from others. We adapt to our customers, we offer flexible customized solutions and aren’t afraid to take on challenges.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Purchasing our own space and designing a permanent home for Katz Coffee.
