Meet Carla Lyles of Carla Sue Houston in Alief

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Lyles.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Carla Sue about two years ago. I’ve always been very crafty, making paper out of recycled paper scraps, book binding and graphic designing. After dealing with a terrible bout of depression, I used crafting as an outlet. My family would always encourage me to go into business because after years of crafting, many workshops and practice I began to get pretty good at it. So I decided to take their advice. 🙂

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, but I’ve never been happier. The one struggle that I am having currently is balancing work/family life. I have a sweet baby boy and trying to run a business and take care of a two year old takes a lot of work and help from great family and friends

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I sell handcrafted greeting cards and gifts. My greeting cards are funny with a whole lot of sass. I am most proud of the incredible bond that I’ve built with my customers. I hate calling them that because they are truly my friends. What sets me apart, is that make cards are no none sense and is definitely something you will not find anywhere else.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is absolutely the best place to start a business. Houston is so progressive with a happening social scene. With a little hard work and consistency, you can make it.
